Well obviously when a government entity does this and it's authorized by Congress - IT ISN'T fraud. The difference here is that the US government has the ability to make the payments - Mr Ponzi couldn't so therefore illegal.
I never stated it was a fraud, I was referring to the mechanisms at play here and if Congress doesn't make adjustments, that system will implode.

 

The people paying in get old and then it’s their turn, sort of like health and life insurance. Ponzi scheme used today implies fraud. Probably no one thinks a Ponzi scheme is on the up and up. Social security invests the money in treasury bonds, good thing they do. The payments to social security are interest from the bonds, no different than if a person holds a bond. Great wealthy forces have long been at play to mischaracterize and get people to support privatization of SS.
How about this, a married couple where one spouse worked and the other didn’t. At retirement the non working spouse gets 1/2 of the other spouse’s social security when they meet the age requirement.

I think all of this political talk and whining is making me want to go get my ax and a frying pan and take my wife with me out into the wilderness where we'll homestead in the middle of nowhere, far from civilization. I can cultivate food, smelt and refine ore, raise and fleece sheep, build a log cabin. My wife is great at identifying and cooking all sorts of edible wild plants. Maybe you'll see me on some show on the Discovery Channel.

Make sure you get a good lawyer to negotiate the media deal and be careful about yanking ore out of the ground if you live out west!!!
Land ownership and mineral rights are defended a little more rigorously in some parts!
