Because 99% of them are airplanes and even ships.

Air traffic control has been dealing with dozens of cases per hour of commercial aircraft getting lasered

Every man woman and child owns a drone, those that flew in restricted areas have generally been getting arrested.

Folks lasering commercial flights get reported and may also start finding themselves with legal troubles

The DoD has had a very rough couple of years, but generally speaking they're fairly capable when it comes to keeping consumer grade drones out - and just TRY flying a prison or jail sometime!!
You might just get a closer look at that facility than you planned for....
There's reportedly a $10,000 bounty for information leading to the arrest of people playing laser-tag with commercial airliners, and the FAA is fairly humorless on the subject.
Get caught with a Glock in your carry-on, and they will confiscate it and ding you with a harsh warning and a stiff fine.

    Laser a jet?
Unless your name is Robert Hunter Biden, you are almost certainly looking at a bigger fine, and definitely facing a felony wrap with some home confinement and/or supervised probation- which will be VERY hard to expunge.

See the value of going first. Tar the name of a recognizable political figure (lack of evidence is not relevant). Any response naming political figure of other party is whataboutism. Any callout on tactic, just respond "gee you can't take a joke"

This is great stuff for second-team debaters. Please take notes.

    That's what happens
It's a problem because of the rudderless communications from the current administration.
    Speaking of which - It's about time for a proof-of-life, isn't it?
After all the VPOTUS does have legal rights and obligations under 25A.
    She can STILL be first!
I've been aboard a military installation or two
Flying drones aboard parts of most of them isn't 'irresponsible' - it's ILLEGAL.
This is why UAVs - most of them manufactured by ChiComm companies have software features requiring an user to affirm that they are busting a TFR, or entering a restricted area.

I have a DJI which is probably the most prolific commercial drone, and the description below is fairly accurate.
I HAVE FLOWN in restricted zones, but with the understanding of what FAFO means - and I actually admire DJI's policy of warning me and letting me fly ANYWAY, after I acknowledge the warning for posterity.
(Example - checking for roof damage after a storm if you have an office that is in a restricted zone)

    From the Googles:

A "drone software restricted area" refers to a geographically defined zone within a drone pilot's app that is designated as off-limits for flight due to safety concerns, usually including areas like airports, prisons, government buildings, or large public gatherings, and where the drone software will automatically prevent takeoff or may require special permission to fly in, often referred to as "geofencing" or a "no-fly zone" on most drone systems

As a former senior-intelligence officer with the US Military, the most plausible explanation, to me, was that the government lost some radioactive materials in New Jersey and were using drones, able to track it, to locate it. (What, our government is incompetent? Well does a frog jump?)

Anyway, the latest on that theory is addressed here...

Missing Radiation Source Found in New Jersey; State, Federal Agencies Say They Did Not Use Drones To Look For It - Defense Daily

So looks like we are back to alien invasion and time travelers!!

Some notes I have are "if the drones aren't supposed to be flying, why do they comply with FAA rules about having their lights on?"

Yes, many of the drones are just aircraft approaching JFK and other airports for landing...I've seen the lines they can be in for this, especially at night. BUT some of the videos I've seen don't support this...like the lights coming on and off and the various "patterns" they seem to be in aren't linear.

But not expecting any clear answers out of the current administration...

'Clear' isn't something that one has ever associated with the current administration......
