Hi all, if this has been covered in a different thread, I apologize, but I am looking for info whether the 2017 Prius Hybrid cargo cover is compatible with the Prius Prime cover- and if not, what is the difference? I haven't been able to measure a regular Prius, but the attachment points seem to be the same. Thank you!

The lightweight covers are not the same. We have a 2017 Prime and a 2017 Prius. The Prime's lightweight cover is about 4" longer front to back than the one for the regular Prius. They are the same width, though. Also, the Prime's cover is much more rounded at the back. So, a regular Prius cover in a Prime would leave a big gap and a Prime cover in a Prius just wouldn't fit.

As for the roll-up cover, I would think you'd have problems with the fit at the back since the Prime is rounder. The Prime roll-up cover might fit the Prius but I really doubt it would work the other way.

Thank you, Jerry, for your reply, that clears things up a lot! I will make a cardboard sample from your measurement to decide whether I can live with the gap, if not, I may just make my own cover with a piece of black carpeting from the salvage yard and some grommets and string :)

If you want, I can sell you cheap either a lightweight cover with a storage pouch that came with my 2017 PP Premium or a hard retractable cover that came with my 2020 PP LE. PM me if interested. I have no use for them.

Weird ask: could you take a picture of the instructions on the lightweight cover's bag for me? My Prime came with the cover but no bag, and I'm thinking about how to fold it up (sometimes I have too much gear in my trunk, lol.)

Drawings are on page 525-527 of your owners manual. Works just like a windshield sunscreen. Twist and fold.

@jerrymildred beat me to it. Yeah, the owner's manual gives a better description, but if you hold both ends and twist it, it will self fold into a smaller loop. You do need a correct size bag in order to keep it folded, otherwise it will self unfold just like kids' pup-up play tent.

Thanks! I have the manual; I didn't realize there were instructions for folding! It's quite a hefty tome.

I think I can find a similar sized bag to subdue the beast, lol.

Just for completeness. Here is the requested instruction printed on the storage bag. The same diagrams as found in the manual.

You might want to get the free PDF version of the manual from toyota.com/owners. That way you can search for what you want on your computer ... or phone ... or tablet. ;)

I'm not sure where my bag is. The rare times I take of my cover, I just fold it and lay it down. It always seems to stay put for me.

OMG, do you still have this, with the strings? I have somehow lost mine on a recent trip and would like to replace it but can’t find any kind that aren’t the rolling kind - which won’t work for my prime

Are you looking for the rolling type hard Tonneau cover? If so, I think I sold it already. If you are looking for the light weight soft fabric type (one on the bottom of the pic in the quoted comment of mine), then I should have it still... somewhere. But where is the question. If I find it, you can have it for the cost of shipping plus a small handling fee (maybe $10?) for my trouble.

I ought to see if I can find my 2017 original cover, to sell. I doubt that it spent a week in my car before removing it. I'd learned with my 2005 Prius, that just having a big black cloth is far superior to the factory cover. You can pile stuff up all the way to the hatch glass if you want, throw the black cloth over it, and it looks as if nothing is there, just blackness. Mine is big enough to cover stuff all the way to the back of the front seats, then drape down to hide the front of the stuff from anyone looking through the windshield. Blackout curtains are cheap and good. Black muslin photo backdrop is semi-cheap and even better, though you'd better plan on doubling it up. Get a way bigger piece than you think you'll need, for fitting over whatever cargo you carry when jamming the car full of stuff.

The reverse is true - the non-Prime cover will fit a Prime (my 2022 AWD-e cover fits in my 2021 Prime), but the Prime will likely NOT fit a non-Prime (I can't test this as I only had the AWD-e cover as I kept it while they decided the fate of the car after being hit at 45+).

The Prime cover is rounded, yes, but the non-Prime is essentially that same arc with the middle lopped off. The non-Prime cover works on leaves a very tiny sliver of the cargo area visible in the middle.
