I had to say "farewell" to my beloved flip phone. Now I have an iPhone. With my flip phone, I was able to read and compose texts on the console screen of my 2014 Prius v (Three). However, texting doesn't work with my iPhone. When I touch the text button on the console screen, I get some sort of "nothing detected" message (sorry, but I can't recall the exact wording). No texts display on the console, and I can't compose texts either. I can make and receive calls with the iPhone. Is there some sort of compatibility issue between iOS and the Prius, or is it something else?
The Message Access Profile (MAP) text message protocol that worked between the Prius v 57011 head unit and the Windows Phone and up to iPhone 6 was apparently lost with our switch almost ten years ago to a series of later iPhones.
Best bet would be an addon wireless Carplay screen, perhaps mounted in front of the steering wheel. You get voice readouts of messages and can respond accordingly plus superior realtime Google, Waze and or Apple Maps. Example at $104 on Amazon
