Hey all, I recently found this thread when searching for some options with my new Prius so I figured that I would join. I was one of the guys that would “never own a Prius” and I even had a “death before Prius” sticker on my motorcycle helmet back in college. Fast forward to last week and I traded in my ‘22 Taco Off-road for a ‘24 Prius LE. The decision was mostly out of necessity for fuel savings since I normally have 4x4’s which are great on fuel. Haha. Long story short, I'm impressed with it so far and I actually enjoy driving it! I wanted to not like it so much but it grew on me. It doesn't hurt that I've been averaging 62mpg so far! (I normally get 10-21mpg, depending on which truck I'm driving). Even worse, I've now given it a nickname - The Wedge. I'll have it for at least 3 years and depending on how it works for me and my family, we may keep it after the lease is up. One of these is not like the others...
I was in a similar situation, mainly because i do not want to be associated with the stereotype of the average prius driver (you know the type). But the mechanics of it you have to admit, its one of the most reliable cars ever made because of its eCVT and atkinsons cycle natural aspirated engine. And the best fuel saving car too, even when running at 90+ mph. I will say im a bit jealous of the eAWD some of the new gen 5s have. Not for the power, but for the traction control when speeding in bad weather or going fast in tight corners. Would be a game changer for sure, as of now i always get paranoid about slipping out at the speeds i go. Imagine how much more recklessness and dangerous we can be while also not crashing and burning.
If the shoe fits, yes i was. They tend to be supportive of increase in laws and regulation that limit individual freedom and choice in the name of safety or climate. They gave a bad rep to the prius over the years to the point of it being a meme. The car is great on the other hand despite its market audience.
I drove Gen 1 & 2 Priuses at work. HATED them and never saw myself driving one, despite my environmentalist leanings. just got a 24 Prime SE and LOVE it. What an evolution from the early painfully sluggish models.
