Hey all! So I suspect I know the answer, but I just wanted to get the hive mind’s opinion. Im looking to replace my clock spring. I don’t want to go used, I could be buying another bad one. As for new ones im seeing as cheap as $16 all the way up to $400!! So is this yet another time where I should go for OEM?

For the sake of the hive mind and if your schedule allows, please buy the cheapest possible one and report back on how well it worked. I'm constantly doing that for the hive mind and about 80% of the time the cheapest non-OEM part performs just as well as the genuine OEM part.

No do not buy cheap non OEM parts. I don't have enough time to explain why. Get OEM used at http://www.car-part.com

I've been buying the cheapest parts possible for repairing people's Prius for 10 years with almost zero hassles and passing that savings on to vehicle owner every time and that's real life experience, Douglas!

What kind of real life experience do you actually have to prove your point?

Expecting indoctrination without real evidence "because you don't have time to explain" is a failed argument!

So you lose (alot of money getting ripped off on overpriced parts) !

PS: OP already stated they aren't interested in buying a used one.

More to point, the proof is in a thorough investigation into non-OEM materials and design... In some case like cheap shocks with Spring already installed you'll discover that non-OEM tend to be a higher quality build than OEM, mostly because what they were building decades ago as OEM aren't as good as what they can build on the cheap with more modern manufacturing equipment today. But every part is different and it takes time, effort and money to be certain.

A ribbon cable wound up in a circle . Makes ya wonder who could Fubar this . It's a numbers game with all products made over they're they seem to like it that way . Denso and all suppliers akebono and on and on have become very cheap. Just like Toyota itself has . This ain't Pops Corolla that lasted 27 years .
