Hello! Starting to get cold here in PA! Got this code one morning and it went away by the end of the day. Then a few days later it came back again after start up and went away by end day. Today it came back. Wondering if it’s time to replace water pump or if it is a sensor or relay? 2012 Prius C Three 120k Miles Another good thing to know is a just had the engine coolant and inverter coolant flushed and replaced couple weeks ago. let me know if you need to know anything else! Thanks !
I've been reading about water pumps not hitting advertised RPM late in their lifetimes... I'm inclined to think you're reading an honest error code.
adding: I've also read about no-name pumps not lasting very long. If I were convinced that I had a real water pump problem in our car I would spend the money for a real Toyota pump. ...mind you I'd order it from one of the big dealers that runs a dedicated internet parts sales business, not any of the ones near us. Much better pricing for the genuine article.
I just ordered a new thermostat and AISIN WPT-190. I just got new coolant put in a couple weeks ago. Would you still drain it all or just catch what comes out when I remove both the pump & thermostat? Thanks
WD or Blaster overnight. If you spun the head ( picture doesn't really show why you can't get it off ) file the head and use a 3/8 " wrench if it's a 10 mm head, and hammer it-(the 3/8" wrench) onto the head if you need to. Or use vice grips or a bolt spliter or heat or all 3 if needed.
Remember to work it back and forth. Loosen a bit, tighten a bit Loosen a little more tighten a little less. That plus penetrating oil, colorful language and vvillovv's suggestions above will get you there. And get yourself a new bolt for the reassembly, you should not re-use that one.
So it will turn to tighten but it won’t go any further to loosen. I just sprayed it with penetrating oil and will try again tomorrow.
Ah wait a sec. I posted second gen water pump instruction. Prius c is basically a gen 2 engine, I made the leap of logic that consequently the water pump would be the same. It may be. Take it with a grain of salt though. That's all I've got; don't have a Prius c shop manual. A pdf version likely doesn't exist.
