When starting up, I can navigate thru the Multimedia screen icons (shown in attached pic), and my Pixel 7 can automatically connect via bluetooth. Both can exist simultaneously. I can navigate the Multimedia display while my phone is connected.

BUT once I select that Android Auto icon on top left of the Multimedia screen, it turns the screen overs to my phone display, and there's no way to exit my phone's display after that. No back button, no home screen button to go back to Multimedia.

So, the only way out is pressing the volume button for 3 seconds to restart the Multimedia display. Starts over, I can go thru Multimedia display options and settings again... and as soon as I hit that Android Auto icon to access my phone, I can't ever return to the main Multimedia screen.

Anyone else have this issue, and figure out a workaround? PXL_20241201_144951000.MP~3.jpg

Pic below is my Android Auto display. Once I enter into Android Auto, I need to press volume for 3 seconds to exit, and restart Multimedia. PXL_20241201_180128765.MP~2.jpg

What icons show up when you press the grid icon on the bottom left of your second picture?

Hitting the Grid Icon flips the display to show my phone apps in pic.

I should add: This is a pre-owned FLEET VEHICLE, It was a rental for 7 months prior to me purchasing it last weekend. It had 11,130 miles when I bought it.

Because it's a fleet vehicle, I cannot register it on Toyota Drive Connect (but I wouldn't subscribe to the Drive Connect service anyway)

In some cars, you have to go to the grid of apps and then find the one that is just the brand name of the car- that app is just the escape to get you back to the native car menu.

Yep, that's what you do here. Touch the grid in the lower left corner, then find the Toyota app(the icon is black and white). Touch that and the screen will return to the Toyota UI.

THANKS GUYS. That is correct - THE TOYOTA ICON on my app view takes me back to the home screen.

I also have found that I can get to FM radio instantly by pushing the mode button. I can’t view the FM screen but I can listen and search for stations by holding down the arrow button just above “mode”.

Also, I can’t control YouTube or other media volume but I can control the volume if I use YouTube music.

Poor system but at least Android auto works.

That is a serious PITA for me. 99% of my listening in the car is YouTube videos, and I hate not being able to control the volume through the regular methods. I can crudely turn the volume down using the standard YT volume slider, but I can't turn it up beyond 100% or make fine adjustments. I end up having to switch to Spotify or some other app, change the volume, then return to YT(or whatever app I was in before). It's possibly my biggest day to day gripe about the car.
