Swapped my stock 16 inch alloys for 15 inch steel wheels with thicker sidewalls (195/65R15), and put Hancook all seasons on all round. Apparantly the steel wheels were from a Prius that was imported from Japan… JDM wheels?

They look like old Honda steelies. LoL

Did you weigh them; difference between alloy vs steel?

I love the look of em. Complete with plastic bolt covers all round. Nah, didn’t weigh them, but didn’t feel much heavier than the alloys to be honest, felt the same. All 4 with tyres were £25 total, although the tyres did need replacing.

Steel and alloy rims tend to have similar weight.

Yeah there's no real weight savings with the Steelies You just don't have to worry so much about them if you curb them or ruin one I buy the Steels for like 49 a pop new sposedly . But what you've got there are like what I used to have on my old Corolla and trueno Toyota called those styled steel wheels and of course they have the covers and all of that I think my SR5 was similar but those do look kind of like Nissan early '80s wheel covers too like what would have been on a pulsar or maybe a early Sentra or even when it was Datsun b210 that sort of thing with the better than bass trim

My newest vehicle came with 5 steelies - and my CFO authorized me to look into getting some alloys to replace them with - because she thinks they look um....somewhat 'down market.'

I'm 'slow rolling' her (pun nearly unintended) for two reasons:
    1. I simply do not care much what other people think about my tires and rims.
    2. You can get 'roll offs' (sometimes called 'takeoffs') from people that do.

I did that with one of my usta-trucks and got a set of brand spanking new alloys AND tires for about the same price that I would have paid for just the tires.
As a bonus I got to keep the old rims AND tires for spares!

Yes I got my steeley's on eBay they were new they were made somewhere in the Middle East and they're offset and lug pattern and all of that nonsense was Prius okay I was running 17x7 and on another 15x6 . The 17 Steelies if I'm not mistaken we're like $69 and the 15x6s were 49 I expect their $30 more per wheel now as the time I bought these was mid pandemic I think I will look them up tonight on my receipts in my you know list of nonsense that I've bought and I can get you a seller and a number but these things are widely available from all kinds of people brake rotors are the same way a lot of them are now made in Pakistan in the Middle East doesn't bother me but it might bother some folks long as they're shipped and stored flat the steel wheels are the same I guess they're set up to bang them out pretty quick or something I don't know they seem to be really nice gloss black my wheel guy said they were nice and straight and true as they should be their new but you'd be surprised so that's basically how that went.

Do I need different lug nuts for these steel wheels? The OEM ones stick out too much, and the washers are dangling. M12 1.5 34mm? Or shorter for steel wheels?

Yes for the Steelers you'll want regular acorn nuts You can put your mag wheel nuts on their temporarily but very temporarily as you see the washers and whatnot rattling jingle so you just get regular what is it 12x1.25 acorn nuts junkyard if you want to pay nothing they're just laying on the ground wherever any Toyota was sitting If you're worried about that then you can go to Menards or advance Auto and get them in several different colors a whole set about $2,995 something like that.

When I got Corolla steel rims (for a 3rd gen) they recommended an alternate Toyota lug nut, a plain, galvanized-finish, open-ended one. Here's the part no, if you google you'll find images:

    90942=01007

They were $31 CDN for 20, in 2010.

One thing I found with those, is the exposed tips of the studs start rusting. After installing the wheel I put a drop of light oil (3-in-1 for example) on the stud tip, and brushed it around with an old toothbrush.

My steelies came with caps, so that should be fine in terms of rust, right? A single cap per wheel for all the bolts, if that makes sense.

Yes all older Toyotas that had styled steel wheels the seven hole cutouts and so on generally came with a center cap that said Toyota that covered the four or possibly five bug nuts that was a thing they even had a chrome trim ring called the beauty ring that popped right in the edge of the styled steel wheel.

The "beauty rings" left nice deep gouges in the rims, in my experience. Wheels have evolved, from practical, to nuts (not lug nuts).

Cops with their Crown Vic's managed to get sensible wheels.

Well they were steel wheels designed for the trim rings they came that way from Toyota like on my '73 Corolla SR5 matter of fact I'm not even sure when the trim rings ever came off even when they changed the tires they just usually stayed on oh to get the outside wheel weights on they would pile them up on the floor Do the balancing of the wheels because I won't allow mag balancing inside only wheel weights I have to have em both sides. Then the beauty rings went back on later on I got a different set of rims that were aluminum so the beauty rings of course were no more
