Hanging on to a wife is not considered hoarding, merely fidelity.

A daughter can be stockpiled for a certain period, but is eventually expected to be launched.

LoL; this thread has taken an ugly turn....

Let's see if we can get it back on track.
Trump stated that he's going to slap Mexico & Canada with a 25% tariff. We import a lot of cars and appliances that are assembled in those countries. Not to mention winter greens and fruits from South America, when that stuff is out of season here. You think grocery prices are high now? What happens when he actually deports those farm workers and hit's our food supply chain?

Food for thought, yes pun intended....

I would imagine they are at the bottom of the list, and don't migrant farm workers have additional ways of becoming legal, with help from the farms where they work?

They do, but the system is so screwed-up - it's more expedient to just look the other way. That's why there's a whole bunch of middle men to deal with to absolve the farmer of responsibilities. Think sub-contractors and straw-men.
I'm not saying it's right, but just how it is. Congress had an opportunity to fix some of it, but decided not to, political expediency.:(
We had a preview of this, during Covid lock-downs. Farmers dumping milk down a drain, because the supply chain was broken.

If you are descended from the Irish who immigrated to the US in the 1840's during the Great Potato Famine, you are as the result of a tariff known as the English Corn Laws passed by Parliament in the 1830's.

Unfortunately, history doesn't matter. We, as a society, seem to repeat our mistakes of the past.:(

Mirror narcissism explains it all. I’m thankful for seeing that on this day of thanks giving. It worked on the population. Anything can happen now it won’t be our call, the mirroring worked and the control is locked in. That’s all I and many want to know about it. Surprised how many say they are tuning out the details as much as they can.

Most Americans already pay a VAT.
We merely call it something else.
The term ‘ad valorem’ is Latin for ‘according to value.’
As the name suggests, this type of tax will ALSO change as a percentage according to the value of a specific purchase which varies in percentage depending on the assessed value of the goods sold (or owned.)

    Presidents don't tax.
They CAN and sometimes SHOULD levy tariffs - especially when these are reciprocal in nature OR when you want one of your global neighbors to stop doing bad junk (i.e. Apartheid)
Not sure if POTUSES can do flat-out embargo - BUT(!!!) according the googles:
'The International Emergency Economic Powers Act, known as IEEPA, gives the president largely unchecked power to impose crippling economic sanctions.....'
(i.e. Iran when we were adult led....)

I understand VAT; I've lived in other countries before. Tariffs should be gradual and targeted, to encourage the offending country to change their behavior. A finesse tool, NOT a hammer - but like a bad mechanic, the hammer is the only thing in his tool box. Google what happened to soybean farmers during his first term. Other countries will retaliate, so if we aren't prepared for that - We're going to pay the price. He won't, because money keeps flowing into his various 'business' entities that he won't distance himself from and creates new business entities that we're probably not even aware of.

That being said, he is our duly elected President to be. The real question is, will he follow Putin's template to reform government and get rid of term limits? .

History will repeat itself, but this time around the guardrails will be OFF. IMHO:(

How can term limits be removed? Congress doesn’t have the votes to amend or repeal the 22nd, the only other option is the states. If there is a path he will try.

^ Yes, he asked Rasenberger to to fine him 11K votes...

So do our representatives (Senators and congress person). They said they would never 'bend the knee'; Lindsey Graham certainly did and has been swept up in several law enforcement investigations.

It's the politicians that are going to have to change.

One good thing about P45/47 is that you can easily identify the folks who slept through their government classes, and we've gotten a good middle high school level education on civics and government over the last 16 years.
