Yes, I did as suggested. I tried again later today and was able to get the 6 digit and 5 digit codes, including the last one with a 1 in the middle. Unfortunately, the fuel gauge is still wrong given the amount of gas I put in at the last fillup and the number of miles driven since then.

    Any other suggestion, please?

What will happen if I ignore the blinking last bar and keep driving for another 200 miles?

You will then need to drive for 5 min to 5 days to get the car to reset to the correct level.
Nothing. Use one of the trip meters to log the miles driven since the last fill up and use the "amount last filled" and the average MPG to calculate the "miles to empty (MTE)". Use that MTE distance to approximate when you should next fill up. If the gauge is not behaving by the time of the next fill up you may have plumbing problems back by the tank. Some of those set diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and some don't. If you do get a DTC that would help with diagnostics.

If you run out of gas (*and run down the HV battery), you will be stuck on the side of the road with no way to restart after buying gas again.

I am aware of that and that is correct if the gas tank is almost empty. In my case, I have about a half-full tank when the last bar started blinking because of the problem with the fuel gauge, meaning that I still have about 200 miles to go on the tank. Dolj said above that nothing will happen if I keep driving.

... and that was in the context of you saying you knew there was fuel in the car. I probably should have said, "Nothing, until you actually run out of gas," to be totally unambiguous, especially for other people reading this thread at a later date.

Hi guys I have 2008 prius gen 2 recently my fuel is inaccurate. I normally fill it up to roughly 42 to 43 litres of fuel and I get an average 500 miles 57mpg on a full tank but recently it's doing 420 to 430 and the fuel light comes on. I find this quiet frustrating
I had a 2009 gen 2 to prius before which had done over 300.000 miles and never had this issue and my current prius has only done 190.000 miles on it with this issue. I try to recalibrate the fuel gauge a video I found on youtube but it doesn't set it or changes the numbers. Any other suggestions I also have no fault showing on the obd!!!!

It's unfortunate that there are YouTubes out there from people who think that procedure somehow calibrates the fuel gauge. All it's for its to calibrate the two inclination sensors attached to the gauge under the dash. They do correct the indicated level a little if the car is on a slope, but that's it. The usual reason for using that procedure is if the dash has been apart and those sensors have been reattached.

Hello my friend I filled up the fuel tank full and parked it level surface and disconnected the 12v battery for 2 hours hopefully it can reset the fuel gauge that way. I hope this way works

Before, you were getting about 500 miles on a 42 liter fill up. Now you are going only 420 miles. Is it still the same 42 liters?

I want to know if the problem is with the fuel gauge, or if the MPG has decreased.

Sorry for the late reply when I disconnect the 12v it seems to run fine. But looks like the problem is still persisting. I got around 470 miles on full tank this time round, I just filled up the car few days ago with fuel light on. And I only could fill it up to 38 litres and it full this cannot be right at it takes atleast 42 litres of fuel. I had another prius before this one which has done over 300 k plus miles on it and never had this issue was always on point when the fuel light use to come on I use to fill it up to 43 litres of fuel and always push out 500 miles.
