Can someone please tell me the best way to search this forum for the info below. I remember reading about remote starting a while back but when I search “Gen 5 remote starter” I see info on previous generations. 1. I don’t plan on paying for subscriptions. Can you remote start the Gen 5 Prius by pressing the fob lock twice and then holding the lock down for 2-3 seconds? YouTuber said this works. Maybe it works but how close to the car do you need to be? 2. Someone recently said there is a way to shut the windows from outside the car by using the key fob. Has anyone figured this out? They said the dealership was able to program the fob to do this. I’m trying to find out ahead of time so I can be sure these things are negotiated into the purchase. One person said dealership wanted to charge $150 post purchase in order to program the fob to shut windows. 3. Will I be able to listen to an audio book through Libby or Hoopla apps on Apple Play without the Toyota subscription? Will the GPS apps on my phone link to the info screen through Apple Play or will I just have to refer to my phone screen as I’ve been doing with my Gen 2. I know…I better get a copy of the manual. : } Thanks!
My 2010 Venza had remote start, Toyota accessory installed by the dealer. Pretty old car. When I traded it I didn’t have the second key that did remote start so I still have it. There was a certain button press sequence.
I read here that someone was able to remote start from fob after their subscription expired but I can’t find the post.
I used the remote start one time. The car shuts off when door is opened. I think it was port installed. If I remember the fob could do the window thing too. I think it was only put windows all down. I didn’t need that either. Remote start had no subscription.
Yes, I can remote start my 2024 by pressing the lock button twice and then hold the third time. But I need to be very close to the car, maybe 30’ away maximum. The nice thing about this is that the car is put into Ready mode with all of the last settings for heated seats, temperature, defrost, etc. So a bit of preparation before shutting down could make for a nice warm start in winter. Openning windows from the Remote requires dealer programming. I typically use the Toyota app to start the car remotely and it allows for a climate temperature setting to pre warm or cool the interior. It works great from anywhere. I can also lock or unlock the doors with the app. Also, I use Android auto and the Google maps works great. I can play music with the YouTube Music app with full control of the volume. If I play from YouTube tube or other sources I can hear it but there’s no access to control the volume. I’m assuming Apple CarPlay would work similarly.
Remote start from the fob is free; from the app requires a subscription after the free trial. Remote windows open from the fob is free; but it has to be enabled by Techstream or a good bidirectional scanner.
Thank you! Now I’m curious if the allocated Prius will be a 2024 or 2025. Last year the Prius(s) being built around this time ended up being 2025s. Maybe because of the stop sale they are stalling on 2025. I know there won’t be changes to the 2025.
