    A fracking payment is
Fracking payment is frequently a one time payment for right to run pipes hundreds of feet under ground where you own mineral rights but some company thinks there is gas. Then as gas is pumped from adjacent land you get some small percentage of the value in monthly payments. Wife's father sold land but retained rights. Died 20-30 years ago. She co-inherited the mineral rights.

A bunch of our relatives over the past Dozen Years got out of So Cal & moved to very rural pennsylvania. They don't pay for natural gas, as the industry gives it free to them for the rights to extract from under their property.

It looks like only Tesla and BYD had profit growth last quarter. Nissan might be gone soon which is at a net loss and billions in debt.

Telsa has the selling of ZEV credits to cover the loss of tax credits. Expect whining it the EV mandates are cancelled.

I just saw a report that battery development and production is subsidized in the USA in an attempt to keep up with China, and there seems to be no fear that anyone will try to repeal those subsidies even if EV mandates and incentives are removed.

I have also picked up loose money and abandoned valuables. So if you see a $20 bill in a trash can, you leave it or like I did, put it in your pocket?

The subsidies were just a ‘flash in the pan’ compared my monthly and annual savings. They helped offset my capital gains taxes from selling Tesla stock to buy nice things.

Oddly enough, if I were to buy a new car today it would most definitely be a Nissan Versa. And while the rule of thumb is buy used to save on that initial depreciation, I have a hard time making the math work in favor of any used vehicle right now. Maybe my math is too biased.

Got a rental Versa last time we were driving around Nashville and boy, I almost lost track of the issues we had with it. Eventually they had to trade us out with another vehicle. In addition, from what I read Nissan is in serious financial troubles. Would hate to get caught with one if they go under financially.

    Charging system is discouraging.

I can't see "cheep sidewalls ballooning" as a Nissan problem, but more likely that those tires were somehow damaged. Tires must meet national safety requirements in order to be put on a car in the USA.

    Ding Ding!

    @bwilson4web for the win!!!
I've often said that BEV's will have "arrived" when dot.gov stops paying people to drive them and starts taxing them!

I remember having a discussion with my preacher about churches being 503(c)(3) organizations.
I'm of the opinion that you if take the government's shilling, you HAVE to take their crap.

Much to his credit, my preacher agrees with this wholeheartedly.

I wouldn’t be shocked if the ev credit was increased. Maybe structured so only Tesla gets it, anything is possible. Shock is part of the personality. Only I can…

if there weren't any incentives, there wouldn't be any electric vehicles. and if you were only in it to save money, you would never have had the opportunity.
you have to take the bad with the good, and the good with the bad.
and btw, that goes for hybrids as well, for anyone here not driving a pure gasser.

I lost money having hybrids as I don’t drive enough. The only one was the 2020 Prime LE which I made a healthy profit. I don’t care. No one is going to be standing over my grave saying wasn’t he great, he saved money on cars.

Actually, the Gen one Model S and the Gen 1 Roadster came out before any tax incentives. GM was the first to hardcore Lobby for all electric incentives/tax credit.

globally, fossil fuel subsidies account for 6.5% of global GDP. Without government getting into vehicle regulations there might not be as many personal vehicles as there are today, period.

Do most people earn money by owning a car? I doubt it. Cars are an expense so you can live a more luxurious life. Sure, the way some cities are built if you want a nice "affordable" home you have to also have a car in order to drive where there's any work. I live in a small town out in the country and am looking to start a job where no personal vehicle is required. One job I have my eyes on is the bus service in and out of the town.
