Hey Prius chatters! Have a 2014 Prius v with an engine that finally went tits up after 330,000 miles. I have a low mileage JDM engine on a pallet ready to go but need some referrals for a capable mechanic to do this swap. The dealer wants an insane amount of money to do it... I mean really INSANE. I'm near the Delaware Memorial Bridge on the Delaware side - any good local Prius mechanics out there?

To be honest about it Delaware Bill if they can do a Corolla swap on a late model Corolla the Prius will be somewhat of a breeze so there is always that so don't limit yourself to a Prius expert for a not real serious Prius problem I mean changing an engine isn't like troubleshooting battery problems. Long as they disconnect the service plug all the HV stuff is pretty much disabled and all they're going to be disconnecting is the transmission bolts and leaving that in the car generally speaking and lifting out the motor dropping another one in place and bolting her up putting the service plug back in and seeing what they have

@Tombuk2 good point... I just have heard horror stories about engine swaps that have gone awry because the outfit didn't know what they were doing with hybrid. On another note, should we replace the water pump and EGR at the same time or...?? With 330,000 miles I am guessing YES. *LOL*

I can't help with a local shop recommendation. I checked gasket masters network and they don't list anything east of Dallas presently.
Here is one of their videos to help get you up to speed on what a Gen 3 swap is all about.

I agree with Tom - you don’t need a Prius mechanic to swap the engine. Just a good shop - ideally one who has a lift. With a complete JDM engine the harder cam carrier and timing chain assembly work is already done and sealed up.

I would do a little inspection to ensure it’s a JDM engine and not local salvage. JDM engines don’t have US vin plates in the back near the timing chain cover.

Look for X2ZR-W20 on the front of the engine instead of the US engine’s X2ZR-W25. The injectors should be tan rather than blue.

@vvillovv Wow thanks! 45 minutes! I think I could do this myself! *LOL* But seriously, cool video - I appreciate you positing it. Unfortunately you are right, gasket masters isn't out here yet. If you do come across a reliable source for this swap, please post. Thanks again!

I get it (y) I remember (not so long ago) the first time I pulled the injector rail from our 02 civic to try to find out why it's mpg dropped so far. I had a hard time getting the injectors out of the head and when I did manage they sprayed all over me. Than I had a hard time getting them back in, go figure.
The original plan was to gonna go deeper into the head, I was just glad to get the injectors back in by than since I was already out of my comfort zone.

I'll keep my eyes open. ;)
