    From the 'Duh!' file: o_O

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently recalled 80,000 pounds of Costco butter that was missing information from its packaging regarding a key ingredient:

    milk.

It’s not law by feelings, what regulations from laws say, they say. Yeah it’s nitpicking and a waste. Another time it might be the label missed something someone needs to know. I love our great country and its Constitution. There is no I should have stayed, if you know what I mean.

I will dispose of 100 pounds of that butter if Costco would like.

They might just be able to slap a sticker with the correct info on the box.

Milk-as-allergen labeling law has been on the books since 2004. During which time Costco has sold a lot of legally labeled butter I am sure.

This time their labeling department made a mistake, and they will suffer the loss. Seems fair?

Using this as a blunt object to assail 'overly burdensome regulations' is an optional move.

In this case I would think Costco would just have the vendor they buy from relabel the butter. The FDA isn’t hauling away the butter I don’t think, it’s Costco. I think it has to be this way, unless the law says in the case of missing milk on the butter label, it is excused.

Food safety regulations are strict for a lot of good reasons, some of them written in blood.

Did Costco screw this up, or was it some putz at the dairy packer? I don't see any fault in the government's action here.

Though it is a bit morbid, I can't wait to see what happens when they notice we have two Dakotas and two Virginias.

I don't think it's morbid AT ALL - but of course I used to be a DOD contractor.

I'm buying me some stock in Orville Redenbacher's parent company!!! :)

"I can't wait to see what happens when they notice we have two Dakotas and two Virginias" and a 'New' Mexico ... so confusing.
