I have a gen II (2004) Prius. I had to replace my front bearings and one of the speed sensor bolts broke. I was able to drill out the stud, but I need to know the bolt size. I know it's an M6 bolt, but does anybody know how long it is? I could take out the other side and match it, but I'm hoping somebody knows so I don't have to do that
Sorry. I know this is too late to help the OP, but hopefully helps someone else. I ran into the same issue with the broken bolt. It turns out the bolt is M6-1.0 x 20mm. Obviously, it would be better to get the specific bolt at the dealer, but if you don't have a dealer nearby, you can likely get the M6-1.0 x 20mm at a local hardware store. I used this size bolt along with two 1/4 inch flat washers and it worked out perfectly. (One flat washer might be fine too, but I didn't try it.) Note to self for future reference: I don't know the torque spec, but these bolts don't need heavy tightening torque. Next time, I will just use a stubby ratchet so that I don't over-torque it.
Also for future reference...those things always break when they're rusty. It is easy, and probably better, to unplug the wire from inside the engine compartment, thread it out through the wheel well hole, unclip/unscrew it from the strut, and remove the knuckle WITH THE WHOLE WIRE ATTACHED when you need to press out the bearing.
Old thread but, my ABS sensors bolt whole snapped and sensor came loose from the bolt. The bolt has also had its head shaved off so I am unable to unscrew it. I assume a cowboy garage did then when I asked for a wheel bearing replacement. I’ll be using a reverse bit and bolt extractors to attempt to remove it. Getting error on the ABS sensor too, understandably, as the cars been running with the sensor flapping about for a while, as I was unaware of the issue of course. I have a replacement ABS sensor and M6 x 20mm bolts with washers ready to go! Hope they fit. Really hope and wish the bolt can be removed, and sensor replacement solves the error. Fingers crossed.
Has Raf, was the M6 X 20mm bolt and two washers able to correct your ABS sensor issue? I find myself in a similar situation with my 2008 Prius Touring. I needed my front wheel bearings replaced, however the front left sensor was somehow damaged. They left me with a non-functioning sensor with its original M6 bolt missing. Whoever worked on it decided to bolt it back on with a different-size bolt through a freshly drilled hole next to the sensor. I ordered a replacement sensor, and now I just need a new M6 X 20mm. I pray that the original threads are usable.
If they drilled a new hole, I’m guessing it’s because the old threads were unusable. We couldn’t remove the seized bolt, so I’ve had to order a hub with an ABS sensor already bolted to it. We’re just gonna replace the entire hub and sensor, and hope that works.
