How Peanut the Squirrel Became the Center of a MAGA Firestorm - Newsweek Famous tree-rat - euthanized for........something, I guess. What fun times we live in! Animal rights activists and super-mega-MAGA folk make for VERY interesting political bed fellows.
P'nut himself is not the important part. The important part is that the state of NY got a report from a woman in Texas that a man had an unlicensed squirrel in his house in western NY. They sent six men from Albany (East end of the state) all the way out to to Elmira (West end of the state) to arrest a squirrel. They brought a search warrant, kicked the owner out of his own house, interrogated his wife, and somehow spent five hours browsing to see if he had anything else interesting around. There was Fred the racoon, but it didn't take five hours to find Fred. They allegedly were there to protect wildlife, and claimed to be professionals, yet they claimed that P'nut somehow bit someone ( I have handled a squirrel and not got bit, used to have a picture of me wearing a live squirrel for a hat, so how "professional" are they really?), thus making it necessary to kill all the animals in the house. If the squirrel had only claimed to be Mexican they would have bought it its own hotel room, pre-payed credit cards, telephone, medical care and language training. This same state keeps running a deficit, and Albany appears to have no idea why...
Maybe flaunting laws on the internet isn't a good idea. He had the squirrel for 7 years, and was only now in the process of getting a license for it. Then the state employees that went to apprehend the squirrel should have had been vaccinated against rabies, so no need to summarily kill the animals.
All fine until imagination ran wildly unrelated the last two sentences. How about what Noem did to her dog, and other animals? No wild stories about the Dakotas or claiming if the dog was Mexican… A worse story almost than peanut is the little girl and her goat in rural calif. I could say these are some of the most right wing areas in the country, but won’t say that. They spent a fortune to get the little goat from her to slaughter it.
