So…maybe I was wrong in my previous post saying the ANSIKE card didn’t work. The car did report a card read error on first power-up, as I said. But I’m thinking now it was a functioning card and I should have just left it. I say this because I ordered another similar card from Amazon (this one), based on reviews and "A" Fakespot score. When I installed it yesterday, I got the same "cannot read SD card" pop-up on initial start-up. But this time, I checked a few map functions before removing it and things seemed to be working as expected, despite the error message.

Today, I did not get the error on power-up, and I used navigation without a problem for a couple local drives. My maps, which were dated 2017-4-1, are now dated 2022-5-1, and I am seeing local roads for new housing developments I know did not exist in 2017, so it appears to be a newer map.

I’ll report back after I’ve had more time to play with it, but thinking now that error message is just a one-time hiccup and not a real problem.

    Hi Sorry to break in
    I have a 2017 Prius Prime Advance
When I go to Toyota parts check the standard monitor show the Nav SD upgrade card for about $200. However when you enter you vehicle info or Vin# it breaks down the parts list and indicates the SD is different for the 11.6" screen and far more costly- cheapest I found was $600 and as much as $900+ ? So I guess I'm asking was the standard SD totally compatible the Prius Advance 11.6" nav system. I having the SD installed this week and they quoted $200 but I concern it might screw something up. I belief it's 86271-GN8PR-23. However every Toyota part selling site indicates to use a another version at a steep price.
Your feed back will be much appreciated . Did you search and come across the same thing? Search for 86271-GN8PR-20 or 23 and you see what I mean when you check model compatibility. See PDF I attached.
    Thanks Mark

Looks like there are 2024 map cards out now. I'm looking to update my 2017 Prime Premium (11.6 display) because they changed all the exit numbers around here a few years ago, but it isn't clear to me what card is supposed to work - they all mention 2017-2018 Primes, but not a specific model, and I see cards labeled as 86271-0E076 and 86271-0E075 - is that just the difference between the 2024 and 2023 cards? I'm leery because I know there are differences between the 11.6 head units and the smaller ones...

I just installed the 2024 edition (86271-0E976) from Amazon Canada into our 2018 Prius V Tech with Nav. All good as it quickly got through the loading maps message and the map date updated to 2023. Our old breadcrumbs and labeled addresses were all there afterwards.
The first one we ordered wasn’t marked Amazon delivery and never showed up. We got a refund on that and by that time, there were versions available with Amazon delivery. Showed up quickly this time.
When we bought this used from a Toyota dealer, I asked for a map upgrade with our deal. They gave us $200 off instead.

About a week ago I successfully installed the 86271-0E075 into my 2017 Prius Prime Plus with small screen. The Amazon seller was Kimlion. My review of it on Amazon is under username NikonF7. I paid $8.99 after $1 (or 10%?) off coupon. That was about 1/3 of what the 1 year newer 0E076 was going for at the time. So I upgraded to probably 6 years newer than what I had, versus 7.

I just pulled open the little door at bottom right of screen, and with car off, replaced the chip. After that, I just followed instructions on the screen.

Turned car on, it gave instructions to turn car off and on. I did that, then the progress bar chugged along for about 10 minutes until done. Once the car was happy, and appearing to have the new maps (May 2022) I turned the car off and on again, all was well. One more time for good measure, all was well. Cleaned dust out from behind the door before replacing it.

It does find some slightly different and better "shortest route" and "fastest route" results compared to before, and does display the 2022 map date in the car's settings. No new roads around here to test it on, but it sure seems to be updated, to me. I put the old chip in the glove box in case this one dies.

Nothing went wrong. For $9 it is a no-brainer to do this.

I bought an update online for my 2017 and it doesn't work. Is there a reliable source online? I checked my Toyota dealer and the latest update for my car (17.1) costs more than $1,000!!

IMHO, find a tech savvy, trusted kid. You can download the latest infotainment software and install it yourself (not the maps, but the OS). I don't have the link, but ran across it a few months back, when I was bumming around, in the Toyota website. It even ask for vin number to make sure of compatible hardware. That should get rid of any hic-cups on a maps update.

You can just tether your phone to the system, your phone maps automatically updates and doesn't cost you anything. If you running an Android phone, there are conversion boxes for less than $100 to talk to your Carplay jack.

    Hope this helps...

Opps, sorry - car needs to be 2020 or newer to transmit apps to your console. You'll have no choice but to pay for the dealer's files if you want updated maps or run a separate Garmin. For $1K; I think I'd run a Garmin instead or invest in a very nice cell phone holder.

2018 Prius Prime Advanced, with the E7052 display - as delivered it still had the 2017 maps, so time to update. I ordered the “2024” map update from Amazon
, $20; there are several vendors with what looks like the identical card, “86271 0E076.” Ordered from this “Mtmsnh” vendor as the description included instructions.

The process: Turn the car off. Get the SD card cover off by pressing the right side, the left side pops down. There is a extension on the right side of the cover that it hangs down from; taking the cover completely off makes the next steps easier. Using a small flat screw driver, push the card in; it will pop out 1/8 inch. (i.e. not much!) Grab it with tweezers or needle nose pliers. Note contacts are 'in', on the engine side. A mirror and flashlight help. Insert the new card, and use the screw driver to pop it back fully in - it will look like the original before you removed it. Picture attached, sorry about the focus.

I started the car, and got a brief message about SD card could not be read, but it disappeared within a second. Per the other notes in this thread, left the car on for ~15 minutes. The was a map display, but none of the navigation buttons worked. Turned the car off, waited a minute for all the lights to go off. Turned it back on ... navigation appears to be working normally. Map date shows "2023." <Happy Mode on>

The item description notes the date of the card will be behind the maps date, "All cards are technically 6-12 months behind." Also of note, "The SD card can be used only in one car, once it is installed to the navigation system for the first time, it will be locked with cars VIN. Navigation system SD cards cannot be used/switched from one vehicle to another. "

UPDATE (The next day) <Happy Mode Off> Navigation does not work while moving. With a route set there are no voice prompts and frequent hangs. Map Date is now blank, it had shown 2023 initially. After selecting a destination, the route is shown and approved; but then hangs on the way. No change in a second try 4 hours later. Returning, obviously not compatible with my car’s configuration. I am reminded of comment #12 above that said it would not work, but others said it would. YMMV.

I popped the old original card and installed the new one. That was it.

Garmin and cell phones has been that way for at least a year now. Unable to make adjustment while moving - not hanging up; freezing. There was a time in cell phones where you make adjustment to your phone's configuration to get around that, Not anymore.
