Turns out, Munro Associates appears to agree:

i wonder how many patents a day gm files.

efficiency doesn't sell, people want low cost

The patent looks rather generic which makes it fairly easy to get aound with small design changes. It would probably better for lucid and gm to work something out before gm starts working with it. IMHO reliability and cost are more important than the tiny efficiency improvement.

The article did note differences with Lucid's design.

I always thought that the more generic the patent claims the better because it covers many ways of accomplishing the goal. While a more specific patent is easier to design around since if you change a design detail or two you are no longer infringing.

My understanding is there are two types of patents: (1) specific implementation down to parts, and; (2) a generic patent designed to profit off the concept.

Tesla uses "proprietary information" while leaving the patents open. As China is discovering, propulsion landing is more than making a rocket look like a Falcon 9 or Starship. Integration and test is what makes something "proprietary information."
