Yeah bestcarweb.jp drawing makes it resemble the Toyota Aygo X which incidentally is almost the exact same size.
    500_1g3cardamon-2.jpg

But if it's a collaboration with Toyota's Compact BEV SUV then it sort of resembles a squished bZ4X.

That's the model Carscoops gets their dimensions from.

Sure ... in the same way a coupe style makes the smart car look small.

Just to make it clear: my only beef is that they're describing it as an SUV.

If they had announced it as a hatchback I'd probably be on my 6th enthusiastic post about it by now.

By the numbers it seems like a nice car- I look forward to learning more.

But 'the people' don't like hatchbacks or wagons, so everything is called a SUV. Even if the manufacturer calls it a car for regulations(see HR-V and Trax). I'm just going to blame this all on Porsche today for calling a four door sedan a coupe.

The 300 mile range figure might be based on whatever test cycle India uses. Estimating from the i3 EPA, this little car could have a range in the low 200s.

    It’s marketing, that’s all.
SUVs sell better than hatchbacks. Even if they are the exact same car.
Similar to why Toyota says they have a large ‘electrified’ fleet.
It sounds much better than ‘we have a huge hybrid fleet, and a few cars that have plugs’.

Yes, I agree... it's just a name and I need to re-train myself.

For the past 20ish years I've been able to avoid overpaying for trendy crap 'excess content' cars with one simple trick: Rigid avoidance of SUVs.

But now that the moniker is being applied to cars that aren't necessarily trendy crap it's going to take more work to separate the wheat from the chaff.

    Thanks for bearing with me.

actually, i have felt exactly the same way. the name brings negative connotations to my mind.
i wouldn't use it for my product, but i can see how they might be able to fool some folks into buying it because of the name. sounds a bit like sneaker marketing 101

ALL-NEW TOYOTA URBAN CRUISER MAKES FIRST APPEARANCE AT THE BRUSSELS MOTOR SHOW
Well the Urban Cruiser BEV is a go! Shown at the Brussels Motor Show, it will be rolled out in Europe around late Summer of 2025 and will be available with a choice of 2 battery packs. The FWD version will have a choice of a 49 kWh battery and will host a motor with 106 kW (142.2 hp) or will have a 61 kWh battery and a 128 kW (171.7 hp) motor. The AWD versions will have the exclusive 61 kWh battery and a 48 kW (64.4 hp) motor on the rear axle will boost it to 176 kW (236 hp). In case you haven't quite read the entire announcement, both batteries will be LiFePO4 or lithium iron phosphate. Odds are they may be the new bipolar ones discussed previously in their battery announcement from 4 years ago. The size will be slightly bigger than the Yaris Cross as mentioned in post 22 here.

As you can see they refined it a bit and yes it has a rear wiper. They are sticking to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

So what will the name be? Likely for Europe it will be bZ1X (yeah I know the rear name plate says Urban Cruiser), however, lately Toyota trademarked a bunch of names as late as October 31st last year. So they may eventually bring it to the US but as an US made version and under a different name. These are actually old previously used names and I'm betting they won't name it MR2.;)

Now that the Toyota Urban Cruiser is officially in Toyota's lineup in Europe, here are the official specs:

    • Length: 4,285 mm (168.7 in.)
    • Width: 1,800 mm (70.9 in.)
    • Height: 1635 mm (64.4 in.)
    • Wheelbase: 2700 mm (106.3 in.)
For a short vehicle it is wide and has an extremely long wheelbase. For comparison, the shortest vehicle Toyota currently sells in the US is the Corolla Cross and the Urban Cruiser is 8.1 inches (206 mm) shorter. The Urban Cruiser is 12.4 inches (315 mm) shorter than the Prius but almost 3/4 inch wider. The Urban Cruiser sits about the same height as the Crown Signia and with a wheelbase longer than a RAV4 or Lexus NX it should be a nice elevated, well planted ride.
Unknown stats: ground clearance, cargo room, EV range estimates, and charging limits.

Also an all-new BEV is to be revealed on March 11th:

    Teaser from that site.

InsideEVs says it'll be the bZ Compact SUV shown in post 22.

Long wheelbase is common to BEVs to fit a bigger battery.

True the bZ4X wheelbase is longer than the RAV4/NX at about 61% of it's length. The Urban Cruiser's wheelbase is 63% of it's length. Could be because it is being built on a new dedicated EV platform and the LiFePO4 battery needs a touch more room. The battery could also explain why they pushed up the height but then again they needed to stick in a rear motor for the AWD version. Hopefully we'll get more details over the summer as well as about the new BEV they'll show at 7:01 PM on March 11th (March 12, 00:01 am CET).

The original picture reminds me of the old Scion iQ Toyota made about 20-years ago. (I owned one...a 2012 and I put over 100,000 miles on it as my commuter car.) The little 1.3l engine got over 40 mpg but the ride wasn't very good....Scions were built to draw in the young crowd but it never worked out for Toyota, for numerous reasons.
But there IS a market out there for both smaller trucks and smaller sedans...even the Honda's are getting bigger and bigger and I don't know why.
This is proven by the Corolla Hybrid's outselling the Prius now.
Hey, Toyota, bring back the Yaris and put a hybrid in it and you may, even want to make an EV model just to see how it sells. (Or make one a plug-in but you gotta put a beefier battery in it to give it some range.)

Wasn't that the Gen 1 Prius? I thought it looked a lot like a Yaris.
BTW the US best selling hybrid in 2024 was the Camry. It was #2 overall (RAV4 was #1) and was hybrid only (2025 model year) starting early in the year.

The gen1 Prius was more Echo. The Yaris wasn't out yet.

You seem to have answered your own argument. The Prius is smaller than the Corolla Hybrid by over an inch in length, about the same width and a little lower. The only thing the Prius has going for it is more cargo room because it is a hatchback. What you might want is for Toyota to make the Corolla Hatchback (over 9 inches shorter, a little wider and not quite an inch higher than the Prius) with a hybrid power train. I doubt Toyota would do that since it would cut into sales of the Prius and maybe the Corolla Hybrid sedan.
