Is there a way of knowing if a specific engine (2ZR-FXE) is subjected to oil consumption?

If oil is "blowing out via crankcase ventilation," it's still being combusted---at least partially, just like oil that enters the cylinder by other routes. (That's assuming no catch can, of course.)
Mine isn't losing "a bunch of oil" by all routes combined, so there can't possibly be much oil going through the PCV valve.

There's a guy on here who has been going through 4 quarts of oil per thousand miles for years and I once did some initial research to see if we could calculate how many tons of carbon emissions that adds up to but was unable to find an valid way to make that calculation. At least yet...

It wouldn't be radically different from the carbon emissions from from burning an extra 7 pounds of gasoline per thousand miles---assuming most of the carbon in the consumed oil comes out the tailpipe as CO2.,

You got a reference for that?

Complex hydrocarbons are insane when turned into atmospheric gas. Or rather what's the temperature this Summer for you where you live?

As in, it's common knowledge that a gallon of gasoline weighs 6 pounds and after combustion with oxygen you multiply the weight of the carbon times 3.7, which equals 20 pounds of carbon dioxide produced for each gallon of gas.

And a gallon of motor oil weighs more than a gallon of gas, so that level of combustion means even more than 20 pounds of carbon dioxide gas produced... Of course the whole problem I'm trying to get to the bottom of is how much C02 is produced when burning a gallon of motor oil. Still looking for reference for that for the next time the guy who uses 4 quarts of oil per thousand miles posts again about car repair advice that he never listens to.

If it isn't burning oil yet you can do regular oil flushes which will stop it burning oil in the future.... 362,000 miles and counting... 10,000 mile oil changes with fully synthetic of any brand I can get cheapest and no oil burning.... Wife's car 242,000 and the same.

What years are the cars manufactured in (low tension rings vs high tension rings), and what is the frequency of oil flushes (every other oil change, every 3rd OC, etc.)?

We have a 2011 at 130k, not burning oil, has had intake manifold to EGR cooler cleaned out at 120K, and OCC installed at the same time cleaning was done. Mostly 10K oil change interval with full synthetic oil, but changed to 5K OC intervals at around 100K.

Do you just add oil flush solvent, run a few minutes, drain old oil, then replace with fresh synthetic oil and done? Or after the flush, do you replace oil with cheap dino oil, run a few days, then drain the dino oil and any remaining solvent, then fill with synthetic? Theoretically, any solvent remaining in the fresh oil in scenario one above would evaporate out at operating temperature, right?

Ct200h and gen 3 prius have the same issues, its the same drivetrain in a tweaked body. The Lexus owners report the same issues if you go into their forums as well. The car consumes most of the oil at the rings only a small % through the pcv system. For oil consumption there is no quick check. About the quickest check is to top the oil off to the top dot on the dipstick and drive down the interstate at 80mph with the cruise control on for about 400 miles and check the oil drop on the dipstick. If its consuming oil it will do it noticeably under these conditions if its an issue.
From the tear downs i've seen they really don't get cylinder or bottom end wear from these 10k oil changes, it just sludges up the rings.
Outside of this though, I'm a firm believer these cars can be reset from oil consumption with a piston soak and making sure to do 5k full syn oil changes from there on out. Piston soak takes a 24 hour period on a weekend and about $5 in e85.

I use liquid molly pro engine flush, just add to oil before oil change.. Run for 15 mins and drain away... I do every 2nd or 3rd oil change so 2 or 3 times a yr as I'm doing 60,000 a yr.

Did the piston soak thing on wife's car which was burning a couple of litres between changes, left engine flush in the bores while I went away on holiday... 2 weeks. Came back.. Dropped oil and its cured her oil consumption... Hers now gets done every second change.. But she is a low mileage user so probably done every 10,000 miles

Based on this TSB, I tried to find out when the changes were made.
    https://attachments.priuschat.com/attachment-files/2021/08/209716_T-SB-0168-16_oil_consumption_test.pdf

I've used the VIN numbers of gen 3 Priuses listed at 2 auto auctions and this is what came out of it.
Some VIN numbers are with ****** because I am not registered at this auction.

    What i see here....

Regular prius had 0, 1 and 5 in the 11th digit of the VIN in 2013.
Beginning 10/2013 5 is not there anymore.
Beginning 01/2014 there are 0 and 1 left.
In 08/2014 the 2015 model production began with the same digits 0 and 1.
    In 11/2015 1 was replaced with 2.

    Prius plug-in
I just saved what i've found. There are not many of them listed.

    Prius V
In 2013 the 11th digit of the VIN was 3.
From 08/2013 thru 12/2013 the digit was also 3.
    In 01/2014 letter J appears.
In 11/2014 the 2015 model production began with letter J only.

    My conclusion is:
The Pruis 30 rings and pistons were updated starting 01/2014 with number 1 in the 11th digit of the VIN.
The Prius V rings and pistons were updated starting also 01/2014 with the letter J in the 11th digit of the VIN.

You may not be wrong but there can be two ways to be right.

The way I like is using updated tsbs for the change over in production. Every 2010-2013 has low tension rings and early pistons.

Some 2014s have revised pistons and rings. All 2015 and later gen3s have the revised parts. 2017 was the last gen 3 v wagon. 2015 was the last gen3 hatchback.

The hatchbacks and v’s each were built in two different factories. Each factory has its own six digits of sequence numbers.

Every 2014 prius hatchback has 0 or 1 in its VIN.
Every 2014 prius wagon has 3 or J in its VIN.
    Where's the difference?

Different factories each with their own sequence numbers. What you have demonstrated is a manufacturing date of 2/14 is probably updated. To know for sure you use the chart above.

If the information of the updated engines is hidden in the last six of the VIN, than those TSBs are useless?

If your VIN’s last six digits are higher than those numbers, you’ve got the revised pistons/rings?

    Got it!
Now i can check 2 priuses i have.
    2014 prius V, manuf. on 11/2014. vin JTDZN3EU6EJ015321
Last six of the vin of this prius v is higher than in the TSB which means the rings and pistons are updated.
Another is 2014 prius hatchback, manuf. on 01/2014. vin JTDKN3DU3E0356717
Last six of the vin of this prius is lower than in the TSB which means the rings and pistons are not updated.

It looks like 2/14 applies to hatchback too.

Thank you all for helping me figure this out!

Tbh like 20oz of e85 dumped into the oil to idle up to operating temp before an oil change seems to do a good job too of cleaning rings. Its like $0.30 at each oil change. I like to do this on my vehicles i don't want to do a piston soak on. Low effort, good results, less emissions as a result, cars last longer, burn less oil etc....
I honestly believe the whole military flushing engines with diesel thing now.

Turn the tables on the oems making cars throwaway vehicles.
