I purchased a 2024 Prius Limited AWD a month ago. It is a great little car. I love everything about the car’s looks….. except the front grill. My entire car is red and black - except for the front grill and the hood emblem. The hood emblem is easy to turn black. The grill is not. Do any of you know of an available black front grill surround? I thought about just painting it, but it will definitely get rock chips which will then show the silver underneath - a black plastic molded piece would be better and it won’t show rock chips. I also have found that gen5composites offers a beautiful carbon fiber grill surround, but it is much more money than I would like to spend and I don’t plan on putting carbon fiber anywhere else on the car. Thank you for your help.
Or mat-black plasti-dip? If you change your mind you can peel it off. If you don't change your mind but it's starting to wear, peel it off and spray paint it.
Following this thread. I’m wondering if anyone in Canada is interested in trading black grill for silver? Maybe someone with a silver Prius?
Thank you for your replies. Can anyone confirm that the LE model has the black plastic grill surround? I’ve been looking at photos on the internet and they are not detailed enough to determine if the LE grill surround is black or grey (and shadowed in the photo). If the LE version is black, do you have a recommended place to purchase this piece? (Other than the parts department at my dealership.)
Now I'm curious about whether the plastic piece from a dealership is available at all, and if it is any cheaper than the CF aftermarket piece. Your fuelly record is nuts.
I don't think it's fully black, but a dark dark gray. About the same color as the LE/SE wheel covers. But take that with a grain of salt since I never paid that close attention to the one I saw in person. I believe the part you are looking for is: 53112-47370 Grille, Radiator, Lower (big warning at the bottom) MSRP of $118.29, can usually be found for $81.79, currently $65.43 and free shipping if you order in the next 12 hours from Lewis Toyota (Lewis does 31% off standard, there's free shipping on any order over $75, and there's an additional 20% off sale running through midnight PST Oct 31 - the free shipping is calculated after the 31% but before the 20%) Warning: I was trying to figure out why the LE lower grille was so much cheaper than all the rest(others = $275-$300 MSRP) when I finally realized the LE is the only one without the lower "fog" lights. The lights are built into the lower grille, so I don't know if there's any way to get an LE grille to work on a LTD. Maybe there is, but it's totally at your own risk. At $65, it might be worth ordering just to give it a try, but it's up to you. Here are the part numbers for the four versions of the lower grille: 53112-47370 - LE - dark gray inner section, no fog lights 53102-47220 - XLE/LTD - silver inner section, fog lights 53102-47230 - SE - silver inner section, no fog lights - need to also buy fog light covers 53102-47240 - XSE/XSE+ - silver inner section, fog lights The PHEV versions seem to be slightly different, and I don't know if they're compatible with the HEV versions. The differences might only be cosmetic(slightly different shade of silver) or there may be mounting differences if the PHEV has a different cooling setup that the grille has to account for.
That would make sense - the PHEV does have one big variable speed fan, while the HEV retains the two-fan setup used in previous Priuses (which runs two in series for slow, or two in parallel for fast - can't remember if it can run only one).
Thank you everyone! I definitely don’t want to lose the function of the fog/accent lights. From what Hammersmith found, it looks like in order to have the oem black lower grille, I have to give up the lights. I guess the best option now is to paint over the silver. I’m going to discuss the possibility of this with a local body shop. Thank you again to everyone for their input.
Thank you all for looking into this, because it's something I want to do as well (that's basically the only silvery-trim piece on the car, so it stands out, and being silver plastic it looks hella cheap). I did figure that the best plan was to just spraypaint it, but it's good to see confirmation.
