I have an 07 Prius with a dipstick tube that is broken or came out, causing an oil leak and making it impossible to check the oil level. I suppose somewhere down the line it was yanked on as the mounting bracket at the top of the tube is also broken off. How difficult is it to replace the tube and what would that process involve?
on a good dipstick tube there's a 10mm bolt that holds it in the manifold, once that's removed you can just pull it out. There's an o-ring down there that seals it from the engine. In your case I don't know how broken it is.. maybe some part of it is still attached down there at the engine side and you can just use pliers to pull it out. Putting it in is also easy, just insert and secure it on the manifold with the 10mm bolt.
The upper attachment seems to be missing and I can barely see the lower bracket, but it's not attached to anything. I'm not sure what's holding it in the engine bay but it is kind of loose and out of place. I can't see where it's supposed to be attached to. What do I need to remove to get to it?
I assume the actual tube isn't broken since I can see the lower bracket, but the dipstick is actually just sticking out of the end of the tube and past the oil filter. It was pulled out somehow, maybe the bolt worked itself out. I see a hole in the engine where the top bracket would have connected and it's a couple inches lower than where where the dipstick tube is currently resting.
Nevermind, the bottom connector is connected to a hose, I was able to push the dipstick tube back in but I'm missing the 10mm bolt at the top. Any idea where to buy a replacement bolt?
Take your quarter drive 10 mm socket and ratchet and take one out of the fender while you're bent over the hood fixing this just reach over and take one of the fender bolts put in another one later know the fender's not going to fall off because you took a bolt
