Or mat-black plasti-dip? If you change your mind you can peel it off. If you don't change your mind but it's starting to wear, peel it off and spray paint it.

I don't think it's fully black, but a dark dark gray. About the same color as the LE/SE wheel covers. But take that with a grain of salt since I never paid that close attention to the one I saw in person.

Warning: I was trying to figure out why the LE lower grille was so much cheaper than all the rest(others = $275-$300 MSRP) when I finally realized the LE is the only one without the lower "fog" lights. The lights are built into the lower grille, so I don't know if there's any way to get an LE grille to work on a LTD. Maybe there is, but it's totally at your own risk. At $65, it might be worth ordering just to give it a try, but it's up to you.


Here are the part numbers for the four versions of the lower grille:
53112-47370 - LE - dark gray inner section, no fog lights
53102-47220 - XLE/LTD - silver inner section, fog lights
53102-47230 - SE - silver inner section, no fog lights - need to also buy fog light covers
53102-47240 - XSE/XSE+ - silver inner section, fog lights

The PHEV versions seem to be slightly different, and I don't know if they're compatible with the HEV versions. The differences might only be cosmetic(slightly different shade of silver) or there may be mounting differences if the PHEV has a different cooling setup that the grille has to account for.

 

That would make sense - the PHEV does have one big variable speed fan, while the HEV retains the two-fan setup used in previous Priuses (which runs two in series for slow, or two in parallel for fast - can't remember if it can run only one).

 

Thank you all for looking into this, because it's something I want to do as well (that's basically the only silvery-trim piece on the car, so it stands out, and being silver plastic it looks hella cheap). I did figure that the best plan was to just spraypaint it, but it's good to see confirmation.
