My MFD screen works but is getting darker and darker over time (even with dashboard lights turned to max brightness via the dimmer wheel). I can't see it very well during the day. The screen is more dim at the center than at the edges. Other than the dim issue, the screen works fine. No dead pixels, touch works, and I can click on the MFD Display button, navigate to brightness function, and turn brightness all the way up to 100%. I'd like to replace the screen or the entire MFD unit but I can't find a new one. It doesn't make sense to buy a used one because it's probably going to have the same problem eventually. I see some services on eBay that "remanufacture" MFDs but they don't mention anything about replacing the screen itself with a new one. I've also seen "screen digitizers" for sale on eBay, but it appears they only resolve touch screen issues -- not dim screens. I'd prefer to get the problem resolved with a solution that will last. Thoughts on what my options are? Perhaps there's an aftermarket solution?
I found this company, Up Fix, who will replace the LCD screen underneath the touch screen. But they want $420 to do the fix. Anyone know how I can obtain a new LCD screen and fix it DIY? https://www.upfix.com/product/toyota-prius-2006-2009-mfd-navigation-radio-multifunctional-lcd-touchscreen-display-repair/
Beware of eBay listings that advertise Replacement Prius LCD & Touch Screen Digitizer combos in New condition. One seller in particular, C&H CAR STEREO LEX TOY TOUCH-SCREEN, advertises New. See here: Upon questioning the seller, he said that the LCD is used, and has a slight sunburst issue. Yikes!
@saneesh8 sure, I can get a used one. But I don't want to deal with potential new sunburst issues after installing a 16+ year old used LCD. I live in Florida, and I think it's the sunlight that causes the sunburst issue. I'd rather DIY replace the LCD/Touch Screen unit with a brand new one. Another potential solution I found is UpFix.com. The problem is, I don't want to pay $420 + tax (it's $229 for the repair and an extra $189 for a new LCD) and send my entire MFD to another state. The turnaround time is too long. They can reduce turnaround time by spending $70 - $90 extra to expedite the repair. Yikes. I've found what appears to be new units on Alibaba, and I'm following up with the sellers, now
