Hybrid System may shut down and cause stall. OEM code 20TA10 has anyone had this done and had a problem within 4000 miles? I ask because our friend had it done to his 15 V and about 4000 miles later had a computer problem that cost him out of pocket $ 2750.00 So we have been leary of getting it done since it runs great. Any input would be appreciated thanks What is it that Toyota actually does for this recall?

Depends which tsb you are talking about. The inverter had a software update everyone was encouraged to get to avoid sudden failures. However many got that update and still had a sudden inverter fail which stranded them.

IF that was the problem, Toyota Corp would have covered the repair free.

BUT some owners have had the inverter failure and paid the dealer for the repair. The dealer rep you get does not always know about this 15 year extended warranty.

Again it depends exactly what the repair was.

20TA10 is the recall notice we received in the mail about a year ago. We were out of state and never got it done. Just wondering if its worthwhile to have it done or if it will actually cause a problem.

SummaryThe involved vehicles were designed to enter a failsafe driving mode in response to certain hybrid system faults. Toyota has found that in rare situations, the vehicle may not enter a failsafe driving mode as intended.

Safety RiskIf this occurs, the vehicle could lose power and stall. While power steering and braking would remain operational, a vehicle stall while driving at higher speeds could increase the risk of a crash.

RemedyAny authorized Toyota dealer will update the software for the hybrid system performed FREE OF CHARGE. For customer satisfaction, if the vehicle has experienced an inverter failure with certain hybrid system faults related to this condition, the inverter assembly will be repaired or replaced FREE OF CHARGE

Why would you choose not to get it done?

It is the inverter fail issue and repairs are still available free - if you know to ask.

Because if this came out in 2020 and we have had no problems with it, we have 75k miles and it states that not just any tech they have can do it. Just thinking if it has not failed yet it probably wont...

At the time, circa 2018, that was my concern. Whatever heat cycle damage may have been done would not be rectified by a firmware reflash. And performance could be programmatically degraded by the reflash. Thankfully, no downside to report.
