Replaced hybrid battery with OEM at dealership today but still have permanent code

    I decided to replace my hybrid battery after getting the "Replace Hybrid Battery" Code P0A80" which was confirmed bad by the Toyota shop.

    I had it replaced today and decided to run the test with my Carista and it still had the permanent code. I went back inside to let service department know and they seemed to be at a bit of a loss. The assistant service manager said that if it was still on in a couple of weeks to let him know.

    I didn't love his response but no sometimes codes have to cycle a few times before they go away. Does anyone know if that is the case for this?

    Yeah... They added that "feature" in Gen3 Prius and the car has to go through a bunch of different driving scenarios / tests before the codes clear. It's really sad that Toyota techs aren't able to give you these details. Good thing for PriusChat!

    They added this feature to show the battery had a failure code. To prevent bad actors from buying a broken car, replacing a module, and selling it off like nothing is wrong with the car.

    The short answer is no. As soon as the ECU sees that it passes all operational functions - it'll extinguish that code. It seems strange that the dealership didn't run the car though it's paces to kill that lamp for you? After all they're asking you to pay north of $2500. They should have a procedure for that.
    I know on newer cars, when you replace the transmission - the mechanic needs to run the car though a certain procedure - teaching the TCU and setting it's load balance and shift points.

    That would be funny trying to see Toyota text trying to run all over town trying to drive to the procedure to get that permanent code to go away because it's permanent or whatever you want to call it It doesn't matter and it doesn't have to be dealt with the computer system will deal with it someday or something along those lines our generation 3 had the code permanent sitting out in the parking lot with the code still permanent and it's had the battery change 2 years ago and had 120,000 mi put on the vehicle ran like a top got great gas mileage no issues at all other than that permanent code No other code in sight nothing else going on with the car till it blew the head gasket it I don't know 390,000 and that permanent code is still there The car still got a 12 volt battery in it and it's still fires up and you just don't want to run it like that.

    Different trouble codes have different confirmation driving patterns. Some involve more running all over town, but the one for P0A80 happens to involve hardly any driving at all.

    Well that's great because our car has been driven 100,000 plus miles with that permanent code most of the time I think she didn't even realize it was there so nobody cared probably 50 to 60,000 mi into the battery change she came in and asked one day why do I have this old permanent code and I was like I don't know who cares It's not current We don't care about it won't affect inspection We don't care about it she got to caring about it trying to figure out how to get rid of it and the car died the head gasket blown and all that It's $390,000 or something close to it so it never got sorted or it never got driven properly I guess to clear it I don't know it's still out there with the permanent code in it but it's not drivable so it's not really relevant

    It should go away after a few drive cycles are completed. Once the car has detected a new battery or fixed condition, the pending or current code becomes a permanent code. However if you google this permanent code problem, some cars will have this code even after a year of driving. There is a section in the repair manual that addresses how to clear this code, but even if you follow the instructions perfectly, sometimes the code just won't clear.

    Well I guess ours is still broke then for like a 98K miles . But now it's really broken and parked . I may put that HV battery in another car we will see if the code goes to other car I guess

    This this car's been on a universal trip for '98, 000 on no longer than that about 160,000 miles now it still has the permanent code stored even though the head gasket's blown and the car hasn't been driven in months but it starts right up I don't run it rattling it's just sitting here for parts with the permanent code so all the DoorDash Uber eats and Amazon flex driving that my ex did for that $160,000 mi never made a universal trip pretty cool

    Does the car engine stay on from #6 universal trip (maintenance mode) to #7 put the car in neutral and drain to SOC 30%?

    I'm sure I read solar roof car number seven was never done The lady driving it would never allow the battery to die that low I'm pretty sure that mentality is exact opposite try to keep it full or green forever so there's the answer for my solar roof car which is now parked with a blown head gasket anyway so it will never need to be cleared It's not a fixer keeper.
