Could this be "Love at first mile?" I'm in my 2nd Prius [2004 traded up to 2007 Touring Edition]. You are indeed in for growing affections for your '07 Prius. The more you learn about its features, the more you will enjoy your new wheels. Take an evening and browse through your Owner's Manual - the manual and PriusChat will provide many clues to the "goodies" available in your Prius. I found it helpful to add my own "Index" on a blank page in the back of the Owner's Manual since the provided Index misses some things.

It's difficult to say anything is NORMAL for the Prius GUESS gauge. It is one of the most unique of Prius 'features' which irritates and frustrates many Prius owners.

With a brand new Prius, there's no way you could be sure of how 'full' the fuel tank was when you took delivery. The dealer could have had your Prius idling while making last minute adjustments and settings, or perhaps the 'make ready' guys left it in "READY" while installing wheel covers, floor carpets, etc. etc.

I wouldn't arrive at any conclusions until you fill the tank yourself.

my wife and i just purchased a 2007 toyota prius package #2 less than a week ago and we've put 220 miles on it already and are gauge tells us we're averaging 58.2 mpg so far, but the gas gauge is almost half way down now. that would suggest to me that we're getting less than 40 mpg and when we received the car the gas gauge was full and they just filled it up they said. i don't know, maybe they couldn't squeeze in the 11.9 gallons of fuel.

If half way is 5 gallons down and almost half-way 4 gallons, there's a range of uncertainty in the reading. (220 miles)/(4 gal) = 55 mpg. That could be anywhere between 44 and 55 mpg, depending on where in the range the actual gas used is. With all pips gone except the last one flashing, I've never gotten more than 10 gallons in (until the time I actually ran out of gas and got in a total of 10.5 gal). As always, mileage may vary.

Nice start. If you think you're happy now just increase tire pressure to 42/40 and block the grill.

B) Congrats on getting the new Prius. My advice is to just get used to the way the car handles, gains speed, coasts and brakes. There is a lot of information on that display that, at first, I found distracting. I turned off the video screen for the first few times... just so I could pay attention to the new car. Then I started using the screen and paying attention to the mileage. When I go to drive our convertable Audi, I'm sometimes saying "darn, this one requires a key!". You're going to love the car in a short while. Have fun, save fuel, save money.

I got my car on New years eve. I drive 62 miles one way to work every day. Some times more. I have gone though 3 tanks of gas last two I put in were 9.5 + 9.9 gal. I have 1205 miles on it.
