I’m in need of some help! I started to get the dreaded P0A80 error code on my Prius V. After thinking it over, we didn’t like the remanufactured battery options, but didn’t like the price of a new battery, so opted for a “low mileage” oem salvage battery. We don’t plan to keep the car much longer. It has 200k miles. I installed the battery, only to find the same error saying “hybrid system malfunction”. I swapped back to the original battery which is now giving me the same error code again, but I can’t even fire it up or turn it on now. I found a plug in the fuse box to “reset” the computers but it continues to have the same error. Is it possible I damaged something bigger swapping out batteries? It seems like the job was simple. A few plugs and a few screws. Not sure how I could have screwed this up. what should I do now?
Hybrid batteries don’t like to sit unused for long periods so your salvage battery may have a dead or weak cell(s). The thing I might do is drive the salvaged battery for a week and see if the charge discharge cycles help it. Plus get a scanner or Dr Prius app to monitor the cells.
