130k miles !

Just keep doing as you have been doing.

 

if you did the 120k major service, oil change, rotate tyres, inspections.
if you didn't get a maintenance schedule, go to toyota.com/owners for one.
think about a tranny fluid change if you are going to keep it a long while, and clean the egr circuit asap!

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system has proven reliably prone to clog up with carbon, and there's a nebulous, unproven, speculative (is that enough disclaimer adjectives for all?) connection, between neglect of the carbon build-up, and head gasket failure. Around the miles you're at is when they start failing.

Get on it right away, but at your current miles it is late in the day; every 50K miles would be optimum. You want to thoroughly/completely clean the EGR components, including the EGR passages in the intake manifold.

This is a "moderate" maintenance item; especially first time around, DIY'ing it, I would budget a weekend: get it mostly done Saturday, wrap up Sunday. In advance you can remove the nut on the lower bracket of the EGR cooler (and ideally the stud there as well), and just leave it off.

Did you ignore the coolant change too. Just because it doesn't freeze in Venice, isn't a good reason to ignore the coolant change. Over time, coolant turns acidic and rots your mechanical components from the inside out. You can do a litmus test make sure it's OK; but OEM maintenance manual stated the both cooling system coolant should've been changed by now.

there is very little to be done at 130k, if 120k maintenance was performed.
egr circuit is not in toyota recs, it's a priuschat experience thing. same with tranny fluid.

IIRC the Toyota USA schedule stops at 120k miles? I’m just tapping on a phone at the moment; going from memory. I’ll update tomorrow. Pretty sure it’s 120k, which has the spark plugs, plus it one of “every 30k” in-depth brake inspections.

That schedule (if paper booklet is missing, or even if not) is also available in pdf format, at Toyota Tech Info website (just Google, likely first result).

anyway, it’s event-by-event, humanly impossible to see the underlying patterns/frequencies for various services. For that reason I created a table format translation, nothing added or deleted, to see the aforementioned patterns/frequencies.

Need my computer to upload, will do that tomorrow, both a (table format) schedule per Toyota, and a second, extrapolated to 240k IIRC. To directly answer your question, 130k mile service is likely is just the basics, that’s tire rotation with visual inspection of brakes, and oil/filter change. But again, 120k was more, and maybe not all addressed?

Some people think changing the oil, engine oil filter and rotating the tires every 5k-10k miles is good enough.

But Toyota USA recommends all filters an every 30k miles, coolant systems (two) at 100k miles and spark plugs every 120k. If you missed any you need them now. Coolants are then every 50k miles.







In Europe they recommend updated ecu computer software to help prevent head gasket failures.



Toyota recommends changing the transaxle fluid every 60k miles IF you tow, use a car top carrier or heavily load the vehicle.


Toyota does not require egr cleaning or replacement unless an egr specific code exists. This is an expensive job at a dealer so most on Priuschat do it themselves.

FWIW, the above pic is even on my Canadiant spec 2010. That said, Toyota Canada recommends to change both engine and inverter coolant, at (roughly) 100k miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.

 

with the head gasket concerns, i'd do the coolant now and more often than the recommendation. just to be on the safe side.

One of the elephants in my room: there's both a month and miles component to this, whichever comes first. The other, that Toyota Canada says to do both at the earlier interval. I even emailed them about the sticker; they said to ignore it. Anyway, at the 120 month mark (aka 10 years) I dutifully changed both. The odo was at 88k, kms. About 55k miles. The drained stuff looked pretty good. I'll do it again at year 15 I think.

 

You do it at 100k miles and again every 50k miles.
