Anyone hearing a chirping sound while driving when the EV light goes on and off (switching to and from the hybrid battery)? My 2024 XLE is only 2 months old but noticed this noise after a long trip to Florida. It happens in any mode at highway or back road speeds. This is my third Prius and I've never heard it before. Much appreciate any insights on this. Kind of frustrating with a brand new car. This is my third Prius and I've never heard it before. I googled it and got something about a possible worn MG1 bearing in the inverter but that doesn't make sense with a brand new vehicle. Checked the inverter to make sure the coolant reservoir is full. Thanks!
I don't have a Prius. Does the ICE have a belt? The only thing I can think of is the serpentine belt slipping slightly as the ICE spins up.
Took a look under the hood but the inverter is buried right up against the driver side fire wall. Makes sense that's where the noise is coming from. Setting up an appt w my dealer. Will investigate the slipping belt explanation you suggest. Much appreciate the feedback.
Took the car into the dealer. The tech acknowledged the noise. Drove two other cars on the lot and said they both make the same noise. It’s not the electric motor as I don’t hear it at low speed. Maybe it’s the design of the gen 5 cvt? As I’ve said, this is my third Prius and have never heard it before. It’s pretty apparent to me at highway speed w the radio off and the windows up. Anyone else w a gen 5 Prius hearing it? Thx
LE AWD, no chirp here. If I did hear it the first thing I'd do is pull the fuse for the headunit/stereo. See if it happens then. If it does then it's not coming through the main speakers. If it stops then I'd say this is a software fixable issue. Either way, narrows down what it can and can't be.
Thx. Talked to Toyota USA today. Hate to complain but when they asked me if I was happy w the dealer response I said no as no one else on Prius chat has heard the same thing. Also never heard it in my 2010 or 2018 Prius. Told me I would hear from their Prius field SME to follow up. Maybe I'm just getting ornery in my old age?
