2011… 4- disc CD changer, 4 discs have been in there for over a year. The car parks outside. Changed the battery, tried to eject the CDs, only 3 came out. Toyota wants $8300 (new) or $2400 if I give them the old one. But I want the CD. Toyota says try an audio specialty shop, would be much cheaper. But any ideas on how to get the CD out without doing this, or tearing the the unit apart?
If the car is a 2011, this post should be moved to the Gen 3 forum where more of the right people will see it. And that would be before the 2012 gen 3 refresh, so I think the 2011 4-CD changer would have been this: The repair manual shows how to take it out and put it in, but doesn't seem to say much about taking it apart.
Western Dynamics about 10 (I mean) 20 opps again) 25 years ago published a set of cartoons about product development related to the products they manufacture. Auto loaders were in a few of them. I'd post one but I don't have authorization from the current owners. so you'll just have to use your imaginations or see if they are still on the wayback machine if it's that interesting a factoid. I'm sure someone has posted something about how to remove stuck CD's . Are you not finding anything using search?
Load a few more cd's, ones you don't care about, (ones you burnt yourself but messed up would be ideal),, and see if they'll come back out, or maybe jar the stuck one loose? I think discard dvd's would work too.
Thanks! I did a search, found a few things. Western Dynamics is no more. Couldn't find anything on the company. I found a OEM on ebay for $800, and a Pioneer for $800 (new). I'll try a few things in the morning, see what happens. Thanks All!
UPDATE: Sorry, the OEM on ebay is $400, not $800. And I tried the NEG Batt terminal & fuse thing, now it shows I have No CDs inside. But when I try to load one, it keeps trying to eject one. It's jammed. I'll have to replace it.....if I want to. And there's no way I can get anything inside the slot because it's blocked. It almost sounds like a paper label came off the CD and is causing it to jam.
Cheaper and easier to modernize it with an aftermarket stereo deck. We put a Sony with CarPlay & Android in ours, haven't looked back.
Yeaa..Was knocking that around too... Glad u suggested it before I bought the OEM. I found a Pioneer, same set-up, fold away screen, real stealth, would look great. But its $700. Pricey for a 2011, but it looks real nice. I'm going to go to a shop and see what they say.
I don't want to discourage you from living the dream, but just to mention it you can get fantastic results out of a $220 Jensen- no need to get deep in the dollar drawer.
There is still a western dynamics company. at dot net. It's a new or reorganized company now (at least twice since y2k when I'd seen the cartoon at wd.com while browsing for western digital which is now at wd.com but used to be at westerndigital.com and sells computer storage products). westerndynamics.net company now sells gate remotes and services. You can take a look at General Dynamics if you want a better idea about what kinds of auto loaders the cartoons were about. seriously funny stuff about development issues if one can get passed the seriousness of the product grades.
They probably said the same thing the first time a horse got stuck in a car wash. You almost have to out of your way to make good use of a CD changer these days.
Our 10's got the 6 disk (JBL?) changer. We've got 6 in there, and find it's the go-to most of the time. No bluetooth audio, but we can plug in a phone and stream from youtube or our Apple Music account, and/or downloaded stuff actually on the phone. But still mostly CD's. The qualities better I think. Occasionally just listen to the radio, but the commercial are getting to be too much. FM used to be a delight, way back when, but...
Thanks! I saw the Pioneer, a bit pricy... but what did u get that has a CD player AND screen for a back-up camera? I was going to get a Sony for $130, but no screen. I guess I'll look around.
Pretty sure 6, checked with the CD wrangler; she says yes. Candian spec 2010 Touring, no Nav,.looks like this: (you can just squeak CD’s under the phone mount) And looking at the brochure, finally sorted it out. Premium package shows JBL 6-Disc CD, Touring package includes Premium. Above Tech package shows 4-Disk CD system, notes 6-Disck CD deleted: (Above pic from the nice Brochure Toyota used to make. )
Yeah, that one's navless. The 2010–11 nav unit only changes 4. (But there's another whole drive in it to spin the map DVD.)
