My 2012 Prius V (140k) has been showing some symptoms for a month or so. Rough run after warmed up. One dealer identified plugs and injector in cyl 1. Did not completely resolve the problem. Another mechanic made some minor adjustments and it seemed ok for a week or two.
Now I noticed a slow loss of coolant. Mechanic #3 told me it was a leaky coolant reservoir. Replaced that. No improvement.

Took it to dealer #2. They are saying water pump AND head gasket. Maybe damage from coolant leaking into engine. They won’t know until they break it down.

I’m tired of paying idiots, and am inclined to pay a premium for someone who knows what they’re doing.

    any alternatives around Brooklyn?

Losing coolant is a mid to late stage hg symptom. A sticky egr valve allowing flow at low rpm’s is one “after” factor but does not lose coolant.

If it is not addressed properly, some get holes in the block.

I’m local and have never heard of an NYC/Nassau/NJ/CT metro Prius/hybrid shop.

Good opportunity for Hybrid Pit East?

140k is not the earliest I think, but a cautionary tale. :censored:

Did you ever find a good mechanic in the area? I would love to find someone that really knows hybrids well. Are there shops where the fleets get their services done? There are a lot (though fewer) of Prius v taxis that are getting repaired somewhere!!
