Toyota Motor North America Reports U.S. June and First Half 2024 Sales Results - Toyota USA Newsroom

First half sales for 2024 Toyota Motor North America. Highlights:
    • Toyota remains the industry's number one retailer brand in the first half
    • Lexus records its best ever first half sales in its 35-year history
    • 38.3 % of total sales volume were electrified (incl. hybrids, PHEVs, BEVs and FCEVs) Year-to-date (YTD)
    • 2nd quarter sales saw 39.8% of total sales volume were electrified
    • 2024 YTD electrified sales made up 36.5% of Lexus and 38.6% of Toyota sales
    • June 2024 actually saw 45.3% electrified sales for Toyota Division just sneaking by Toyota Canada Toyota Division (see below)

For @bisco here's the electrified rank and numbers for Year-To-Date (YTD) (and yes all 29 electrified models are shown):

    Place Vehicle Number Sold (YTD)
    1 1 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid 111526
    2 2 Toyota Camry Hybrid 51474
    3 3 Toyota Sienna 32858
    4 4 Toyota Corolla Hybrid 27907
    5 5 Toyota Tundra Hybrid 26867
    6 6 Toyota Venza 21527
    7 7 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid 20569
    8 8 Lexus RX 350h 20287
    9 9 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid 17129
    10 10 Toyota RAV4 Prime 17074
    11 11 Toyota Crown 14032
    12 12 Lexus NX 350h 13172
    13 13 Toyota Sequoia 12867
    14 14 Toyota Highlander Hybrid 10992
    15 15 Toyota Prius 10755
    16 16 Toyota bZ4X 9468
    17 17 Lexus ES Hybrid 7629
    18 18 Lexus RZ 5639
    19 19 Lexus UX 250h 5372
    20 20 Toyota Prius Prime 4618
    21 21 Lexus TX 500h 3546
    22 22 Land Cruiser 3461
    23 23 Lexus NX 450h+ 3135
    24 24 Lexus RX 450h+ 1784
    25 25 Lexus TX 550h+ 380
    26 26 Toyota Mirai 245
    27 27 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid 217
    28 28 Lexus LS 500h 57
    29 29 Lexus LC 500h 8

Table notes: Toyota and Lexus now sells 5 types of hybrid vehicles. If a model only comes in hybrid, I list just the model (i.e. Land Cruiser, Sienna, Sequoia, Prius, etc.). If a model only has a single version of hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid, or EV I'll list the proper model name (i.e. Prius Prime, Lexus TX 500h, Lexus RX 450h+, RAV4 Prime, Lexus NX 350h, etc.).

As can be seen from the table above, Sienna fell from 2nd to 3rd but that was because of the Camry hybrid which took over #2. Might we see an upset for the next quarter now that all Camrys are hybrid? Because of the factory stop sales for Prius, they fell to 15th from 6th. Tundra Hybrid (i-FORCE MAX) fell to 5th from 4th inspite of a stop sales related to the i-FORCE engine debacle. TX hybrid sales (TX 500h) still picked up a respectable 21st place in spite of a stop sales related to an airbag issue. Toyota Crown (sedan) retained its 11th place beaten out again by the RAV4 Prime in 10th again. Toyota Venza jumped from 9th to 6th place on its last year of sales. Prius Prime dropped to 20th from 16th because of the stop sales for the rear door issue and the bZ4X took over its 16th spot from 19th last time.

For Toyota Canada, Toyota Division was up 9.5% while Lexus dropped 6.2% for the 2nd quarter.
Toyota Canada Releases June and Q2 2024 Sales Results
    • Electrified vehicle sales ended up being 40.1% of Quarter 2 sales and 44.2% of June sales.
    • Toyota Division reported 38.8% electrified sales for the 2nd quarter and 43.5% of June sales
    • Lexus Division continues its strong electrified sales showing with the 2nd quarter hitting 48.7% and 48.2% in June
edited to include Toyota Canada link.

Some surprises on there for me....that Rav4 Hybrid is killing it and didn't expect the Tundra to be so much higher than the Tacoma's....seems the local dealerships can't offload the Tundras but Tacoma's are hardly seen. The San Antonio Tundra plant must be cranking out those beasts!
Surprised the bZ4X isn't on the bottom of the list.....Toyota really has a Yugo on their hands with that thing.
Darn the YouTubers for exposing the secret that the Corolla Hybrid is a better car than the Prius....it's at #4! (And probably the reason our early-May Corolla Hybrid order isn't even in the build phase, yet.)

Tacoma Hybrids are just now starting to appear on the dealer's lots. They started sales in June. Most have already been assigned "Sale Pending" around here anyways. The Tundra Hybrids have been hot sellers since they were never the target of possible engine damage fiasco like the non-hybrids which had a stop sale and then a recall. For June the Tundra Hybrid had 32% of total Tundra sales.

The bZ4X is selling because of the incentives. $160/month 36 month lease will get anybody's attention as does 0% for 72 months. But I've seen way more Subaru's twin to the bZ4X AWD, Solterra, around here because of Subaru's $7,500 cash off. Local dealer has 60+ on their lot every time I look.

I really wish Toyota would stop with this stupid "electrified" nomenclature.
On the Kudos side, though, very happy to see them split out each model by sales.

Dig deeper into the raw numbers. The regular gas RAV4 has sold 248k units this year so far. Now that's killing it.

It's good to see that the electrified models are getting some real volume, but it's important to know the regular volume to keep it in context.

Well that regular gas RAV4 total is actually a total of hybrid, non-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid. Toyota just breaks out the "electrified" models separately. So that means the RAV4 Hybrid is 45% of that total and combined with RAV4 Prime, both electrified models make up 52% of all RAV4s sold.

Ah, that's weird and good to know, thanks!

Still useful to have the contextual scale even if they are making it harder to read.

Well as of May when the 2025 Camry came out. They were still selling 2024's in the first part of the year, which is why I kept Camry Hybrid instead of just Camry in the table. Total Camry sales hit 155,242 of which 51,474 were the hybrid variant including 2025 model year (33% of total Camry sales).

On a side note, sedans accounted for a full 30% of total Toyota sales for the first half.

Would have been an interesting race for sure if stop sales weren't issued for the Prius rear door issue. They only sold 13 Prius and Prius Primes in June. The 2025 Camry and Corolla hybrid should give the RAV4 hybrid a run for its money in the 3rd quarter now they can be had in AWD. You'll start to see introduction of Crown Signia numbers and Venza sales start to plummet for the 3rd quarter as well - maybe. I heard they might delay the Crown Signia for a bit, maybe into the 4th quarter with the way the Venza numbers have grown 64.6% over the 2nd quarter last year. For those in the market, keep an eye out for a deal on the Venza when the Crown Signia starts to show up.

Prius jumped to 11th from the 15th and with a full quarter of sales, the Toyota Land Cruiser jumped from 22nd to 14th in spite of a stop sales because of payload correction in documentation. Lexus UX (both the UX 250h and UX 300h) fell from 19th to 21st because of model changeover. TX hybrid sales (TX 500h) dropped to 24th place because of a stop sales related to an airbag issue. Toyota Crown (sedan) dropped to 15th from 11th displaced by the Toyota Prius, Lexus NX 350h, Toyota Sequoia and Toyota Land Cruiser. Prius Prime retained its 20th place because of the stop sales for the rear door issue and the bZ4X dropped 1 spot to 17th spot replaced by the Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

Shouldn’t you list the Camry Hybrid as just Camry since they are all Hybrid trims now?

5th Gen are still rare as hen’s teeth here (lower mainland BC, Canada). It seems to be many more Primes (aka Plug-In now) than regular Prius. The latter can ONLY be had with AWD and 19” rims AFAIK.

Never any on nearby dealership lot. Was getting an oil filter there yesterday, my peripheral vision in overdrive as I walk through the showroom to the parts counter.

Walking out, with oil filter and invoice in hand (my garlic for sales vampires), I thought I’d sidle up to what “looked” vaguely like the new Prius.

turned out to be the attached, and some “thing” already in the driver’s seat. $600 CDN for “documentation”; those guys are ballsy.

Here in the US, Toyota dealers are stuck with whatever vehicles they are allocated. I understand new vehicle and user vehicle stocks are low. Apparently, Toyota has been experiencing electronic supply issued since 2020, constraining production.

I have put down a deposit on a 2025 Camry XLE with delivery at the end of november, for full list price from a salesman we have dealt with for 20 years. I understand the factory had the parts for my car in August and will build it in early November. After 20 years,I trust this salesman & dealer. Our family has bought 5 new vehicles from this dealer over the years.

This dealer is worth the 300 mile round trip drive. My local dealer is beyond clueless. The local salesman told me Toyota does not concentrate on visibility (minimizing blind spots), but focus instead on safety. My logic says minimizing blind spots improves safety & makes other safety features less complex. With my 2017 Prius purchase & ownership, I have had clueless experiences with both sales & service. I just went local & drove a Camry SE before putting down my deposit on the XLE from my preferred dealer.

The sales numbers may not reflect what consumers actually want. I know, this seems counterintuitive, but auto manufacturers are putting their thumbs on the scale.

For years now, these large corporations have been making the bulk of their profits on high-margin, high-ticket sales - big SUVs, Trucks, and luxury automobiles. When they sell something like a low-end Prius, they don't make that much money. They may, in fact, lose money. To satisfy their shareholders, who want profits, auto manufacturers need to sell the things that make their shareholders happy.

Also, when I was looking for a new (to me) car a year ago, I had an interesting conversation with a car salesman. What I learned is that if a buyer leaves their lot without finding what they want, almost all of them won't come back. They'll buy a car elsewhere. That's why they put all the pressure on keeping you there, wanting you to buy from them before you leave.

A lot of the time, this strategy works. People will go into the lot and find with one thing in mind, and find that there's something there that they like, at least long enough for them to buy it. This has been working, to some extent, for the auto manufacturers and dealers as consumers compromise and buy what's available, rather than what they wanted.

I ran across a few YouTube videos, that seem to indicate that auto manufacturers have pushed too far. (I know he's talking about Jeep, but he's also looking at Toyota, GM, and Ford lots, and talking about the same situation.)

Yep I will after I know all of new Camry sales for the year are 2025 MY. Early 2024 sales definitely had Camry non-hybrids for sale.

Ignoring in transit vehicles, my preferred dealer in the Washington DC area lists 1 Prius on the lot & 6 Camrys.

Including in transit, they list 19 Camrys & 6 Prius vehicles. My particular order is not counted on the site because they removed it from visibility so it does not accidentally get sold to someone else.

Is that ALL their inventory or just a selection of models?
