It has been a while, but here is my next update ( see Hi all, new Prius v owner | Page 12 | PriusChat for the previous update ).

My little Bar's Leak HG-1 experiment ended up lasting for a little under three years, and then it started having head gasket issues again. One BIG word of warning though...it did end up plugging the heater core, which wasn't exactly great for winter driving. So be aware of that if you are going to try something like this.

Long story short, I decided to keep the car, since I have done a substantial amount of work on it myself ( see the entire thread for the complete saga ).

The car is currently in the shop getting a core flush, head gasket replacement, and water pump/thermostat replacement. The shop doing the work is Black River Hybrids in the Lacrosse, WI area. It is a great shop! The owner/operator is related to the owner of Tampa Hybrids, which is very well known around here, and he actually did some training there.

I'll report back once I get the car back from the shop. (y)

Any idea what they’re using? One of the stop-leak manufacturers recommended a 50/50 mix of white vinegar/ water.
