The 1.5 Engine used in the Prius C is pretty much a Gen 2 engine with some changes, but the intake manifold itself will bolt right up. The biggest hurdle would be the throttle body wiring. You'd have to do a bit of splicing, but the wiring itself is the same as Gen 2 as far as amount of wires. The Prius C's 1.5 uses a MAP sensor, but you'd not have to fiddle with that as the Gen2 doesn't use one. The PCV system is handled by the intake itself, so you'd have to do some hose cutting and configuring. This isn't something I want to do, I just am curious if anyone has tried it.
I wonder if trying this question over on the Toyota modification server wouldn't add anything but yes the one NZ is up to the five NZ now I think not positive of that but I believe so.
What would you gain by doing this? Splicing the throttle body wiring together is no guarantee that the ECM will like it and control the engine properly. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
If anything I would want my old intake and throttle body to just run the newer engine not a whole lot's gone on with the throttle body and intake on the 5NZ I wouldn't think It's a bread and butter engine for Toyotas so they don't do a whole lot to that except for the GR rally edition which is few and far between so I would just want the latest NZ engine and my 2008 Prius intake and exhaust handling the business ends be just great new engine running like it's supposed to and wouldn't want to make it hard on myself trying to do all that splicing and nonsense to basically have another drive-by-wire throttle body assembly which I essentially already have.
I'm not sure where this "5NZ" business is coming from. A Prius c comes with a 1NZ-FXE engine. The 1NZ-FXE in a Prius c is updated since the 1NZ-FXE in a gen 2 and the 1NZ-FXE in a gen 1, but that doesn't turn it into a something-else-NZ. It's not like the digit in front is some kind of minor revision counter. They use different digits to mean completely different engines in the same NZ family. A 1NZ is a 1497 cc engine and a 2NZ is a 1298 cc engine. I can't confirm that there's any such thing as a 3NZ engine (a few mentions pop up, but seem like they might be bogus), much less a 4NZ or a 5NZ.
I believe 5NZ is reference to another parts of the world I'll look again. Anyway no matter to me whatever NZ engine they're making now and using now if I can run it with the nonsense in my 2008 car throttle body intake exhaust manifold bolts up which it should I'm good it just gives me a newer NZ engine to purchase but all this is going to be irrelevant anyway in short order we're not even going to be worrying about this kind of stuff.
You can definitely get a 2NZ instead of a 1NZ, if the 2 in front makes you think "newer" and you want to downgrade your Prius from 1.5 L to 1.3 L, and figure out how to make the smaller engine fit the mounts and so on. If there were a 3NZ or a 4NZ or a 5NZ, whatever those different engines would be if they existed, that would be the same kind of deal.
Yeah Toyota has changed all of their engine designations from the old days usually as the numbers went up things got generally bigger not much but generally and all of that like the 18 RC engine from the forklift that went in Toyota cars started as a 3 RC I think then became the 8RC then moved on up to the 18 RC then became the 20 r then the 22R and the 22 REC pretty famous in the trucks anyway now that's all been completely altered and not followed at all anymore and well whatever If anything I would want to stay the same 1.5 to 1.8 l range somewhere in there not looking to stick a 2.2 l in the Prius or anything like that they'll be no transmission at all they're made up with that comfortably and you'll just have a rattling mess that you can't balance or something similar it would become a yard ornament.
I'm pleased to have Tom on my ignore list (something I do not do lightly). I can't make sense of most of his posts, the preceding being no exception. It certainly makes most threads more readable for me. Each to their own.
