New Prius owner here. Love everything about this vehicle so far. But the AVAS sound is truly awful. I'm used to the Sportage PHEV AVAS, which has a very soothing sound with no whirring to it. Is there an aftermarket for AVAS sound units? I think I'm going to go bonkers with that sound coming out of the vehicle at low speeds. I've even been engaging the ICE just to make it stop. Moderator edit: VPNS in Toyota speak
Thanks for the edit! I just call it the spaceship sound. There was a thread about disabling it but that could lead to legal issues. I am not sure if you could replace it with a different one as from my limited understand it's just a sort of speaker, so it should be possible. I don't know of any official aftermarket one.
Replace it with an ice cream truck horn and play silly music (at low volume) while cruising on EV power
I used to drive a lot of crappy old cars. If you turn up your music, you won't hear it anymore Same solution to the grumpy old loud engines
