What is the size of the 2024 Prius LE dashboard speakers? 3.5"? Have you replaced them with aftermarket speakers?

Soft_r, thanks for your help. I did search that forum and thread and even Crutchfield before posting this thread, and there is no info about the dash speakers.

There’s a thread here somewhere where someone replaced the dash speakers with Rockford Fosgate P132 3.5”

You know, I thought in all the discussions myself or someone had mentioned it, turns out I guess not.

3.5in is oem. Don't use kicker 3.5s because they're too bright and you'll end up having to turn down treble to reduce ear bleed. Find tweeters (or coax tweeter/mid) that have reviews saying they're "warm sounding" that way the default EQ'ing done by Toyota won't make them sound harsh. I'm still on my kickers since now that I have a DSP I can tune them specifically to fix their issue.

Thank mva, was that your car? What year was that from? It looks like the older RAV4's speaker that I saw on Youtube, but the wire connection is not as simple as dual wire (+ & -); there is a bunch of wires connecting to the speaker and there was a wire adaptor that just plugs into the existing connector on one end and the other to the speaker. But I looked up both Amazon and Crutchfield last night and they still don't have that info.

Kicker, in general, has really bright highs on their tweeters. That's been my experience. Tuned they sound amazing though. But you do need a DSP or in the case of a 2-way speaker, they all include a -3db switch for the tweeters on em lol

Not my car but my 2024 Prime SE looks the same. The photo shows how the grill comes off but it’s very tight to the window - doesn’t look easy to change out.

The installation seems pretty easy, providing that the wiring harness adaptor is available for our cars. Here is the youtube link for the RAV4 speaker swapt.

It's not very tough at all as long you have a fairly short ratchet or a stubby phillips. It's mildly difficult to disconnect and reconnect the wire harness, but there's enough slack so it's not insanely difficult or anything. (I had to take mine out when I pulled my dash.)

Did you buy an aftermarket wire harness? Which speaker did you replace them with? How was the result?

I didn't replace them. I just had to remove them to get the dash out, then reinstall them after the dash went back in.

I seriously considered doing something since I had all six of the front speakers out at different points during my work, but upgrading a sound system when you've got a head unit you can't replace and you already have an amp can be tricky. You can easily end up spending money and end up with something that sounds worse than what you started with. And I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough on the subject to make the needed decisions quickly. (I've got a Limited with the extremely mediocre JBL 8-speakers plus amp.)

when my car is paid off I might get new speakers in the doors and dash. I only have the prime SE, but I also don't want to spend money on aftermarket speakers that could instead pay the car loan at 7% interest. It feels like borrowing from myself and basically using that 7% rate for speakers, which I'd never do normally.

The speakers are passable. Not great, but not offensive enough to change out.

That last sentence is exactly the way I felt. I was leaning toward splurging on Morel, but I knew that I'd need to do a metric ton of research before feeling confident about spending that kind of money. Plus the nearest Morel installer is over 200 miles away from me, so it would be either DIY or I'd have to take a vacation just to have my speakers installed(assuming I add a sub somewhere that would need a custom molded install). Just not worth it to me at this point.

I do like the idea of doing any mods as soon as possible in order to fight inflation(cost of the work is only going to go up) and to get the max value from the mod(enjoying the mod for 10y is way better than waiting 5y to do it and then only getting 5y of enjoyment), but there's a limit to that, and speakers were a little too far for me right now.

We plan to pay it off in under the 5 years of the term loan, so its more like waiting a year or two before I feel like the extra spend is worth it. I was already getting a dashcam, and a ceramic coat, and other stuff in the realm of accessories. And speakers for podcasts/traffic updates and then disney music half the time my kid is in the car with us, just didn't feel as justified lol. Even if they were just gonna be dumb speakers without an amp.

    Good news!

    1) I took out the speaker and found out that there were only 2 wires connected to the speaker, obviously, 1 is (+) & the other one (-). Just don't know which one is which. You can just splice the wires and just soldier them to the new speakers.

    2) They are just paper midrange speakers without a tweeter and no wonder they sound sucky. I will definitely swap out these for sure! I contacted Red Wolf, a company that sells wire harness connectors without splicing the wires. If not, I'll just DYI no big deal.

    3) There is a big hole in the corner right next to the speaker that needed to be blocked to have a tight bass.

FYI, that speaker wire connector is correct. But you need to get 4" aftermarket speakers as I found out that even though the OEM speakers are 3.5" but the mounting holes are 1/2" wider when I bought a pair of 3.5" Pioneers. Good thing that you can get 4" speakers & it's even better.

What's the depth limitation? Is there any? This matters as well. And you can also get adapters for 3.5 to 4 sizing if your preferred brand/model of speaker isn't available in 4" (for folks out there who worry about this).
