Any suggestions as to where I might be able to find touch-up paint for a 2024 LE wheel cover and rim would be most appreciated. (Went to a Toyota dealership parts department, where they looked at me as if I was crazy, saying no such thing exists, and wanted to sell me a new wheel cover, for $170+.)
I had a similar quandry with a Tesla 3 rim, a deep-gray, almost but not quite black. Forum discussion suggested a Ford colour that was “close”. I think the solution for the LE wheel covers will be similar: no official paint code disclosed, but owners sort something out. I know for house paint you can bring in a sample to a paint store; they can scan and match it. I wonder could an automotive body shop do similar, make you up a small jar, say for $50.
I don't know about the wheel covers (I removed mine). For the rims themselces I have used thisbought at Amazon for $6.-). It's not black-metallic but gloss black. Appears to have worked fine. Rust-Oleum Paint 213174 .6-Ounce Specialty Brush Bottle Appliance Touch Up, Black, 0.6 Ounce
If you can't find the paint you want from searching the web and the dealer doesn't carry of offer any, you'll have to go after market to get your paint color(s). Here's a few links to get you started. see also techi stuff below Touch up Paint - Clear Coat Touch Up Paint Code: https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Toyota-00258-00040-21-White-Touch-Up/dp/B0060BELNA after market links Exact-Match Automotive Paint for Less: Buy Touch-Up Auto Paint Online for High Quality at a Low Price | AutomotiveTouchup Automotive Touch Up Paint from PaintScratch - Order Pro Grade Paint - PaintScratch.com rattle can - spray paint only (probably not what you are looking for) OEM Automotive Paint Match | Car and Truck Touch-Up Paint Tech Stuff: Toyota uses waterborne paint on body panels. It shouldn't matter that most touchup paint available is typically lacquer based - most people wouldn't know the difference anyway. Trim and wheel covers are probably painted using lacquer based paint anyways. You probably wouldn't notice a difference unless the things you paint are not prepped correctly for the paint you are using and something bad happens. FWIW, for the aforementioned Tesla 3 rims, the touch-up I used was Ford CX Dark Shadow Grey CAFM 0360. Here's a Google image search result for that colour: ^ And the 5th gen Prius LE wheel cover, for comparison. If your wheel cover curb rash is just on the edge, that Ford color might be close enough. For touch-up of the rim itself, is it gloss-black? Not sure. I think the Ford colour is a bit warmer. But close. Depends on the lighting too. Or Guardian Grey, one of the 5th Gen Prius body colours: ^ With our 3rd gen, which was Classic Silver Metallic, our 17" rims were a similar dilemna, and surprise, surprise, the riims were exactly the same colour: another thought: there apparently are colour match apps for smartphones; duplicolor may make one.
"For touch-up of the rim itself, is it gloss-black?" The rims look to be the same color as the wheel covers.
THANK YOU so very much for all of this excellent information! I have copied it into a Word file on my system, to carefully go through all the options. Most appreciated!
I tried Dupli-Color's app. It loaded a splash screen with their name, in pretty colours, and that's it... Could be my phone (iphone2). Just for giggles, check with a few body shops. They match color all the time. Maybe if you brought in a wheel cover they could make you a bottle of touch-up, maybe even with an applicator brush on the lid. Trust me, you'll need it; there are curbs everywhere, just waitin'...
Here's a close up of what the wheel cover looks like (not the scratched one). We're now searching for a good color match.

"1 wheel cover for $170?? or A set of 4?" That was actually the price quoted for a single wheel cover at my closest Toyota dealership (I asked for clarification, just to be sure). I'm pleased to report, however, that in the meantime, I found a place locally that provides customized color paints in small amounts for touch-up work like the kind needed in my case, for about $60. It can be stored for a long time under the right conditions, for touch-up work on the wheel covers in the future. (You find the right color by holding up swatches to the area in question, until you find what seems like a relatively exact match.)
