You'll have to describe won't start you mean not ready? You're ready and you can back up and you go forward and what It goes forward until something dies it readies you floor the gas pedal in neutral the engine does not start or it sounds like it's starting but then it dies and you get the code for the engine does not start? What scenario do you have?.
figured it out. the keyless button got pressed, so thats why that would not start. apparently, there is some kind of chip in the key case. i replaced the case a few years ago, and was not aware of this chip. i didn't open the case yet, but i assume the chip got thrown away with the old case. so thats why it would not start with the key inserted. i'm hearing there is nothing i can do to make inserting the key work besides go to toyota and spend 1500 for a whole new system thats programmed to a new chip?
If you have the original to the car key fob remote the metal key works your driver's door open that up like you're going to put a battery in it that should be a gray sticker in there You need to take a picture of that gray sticker then go to your local well versed automotive locksmith He should be able to make a clone of your transponder I do believe with all the numbering and the business that you have plus you're old remote even though you don't have the chip I think this can be done and usually it works when inserted regardless? I would think isn't that right. It's been a while since I've forgot to put the chip in the remote and then had to do it later for whatever reason but I thought slotted the thing always worked out of the remote in your pocket no transponder chip and it won't work I think that is correct but either way I don't think you have to spend $1,500 a well versed real automotive locksmith that does motorcycles and all that should have the machine that deals with all the transponder business and then when he looks on his machines website and all of that he'll get the lowdown and whatever he needs to know about those types of transponders but I think it can be done for a couple of hundred I'm also probably incorrectly assuming you have SKS a silverbacked remote If the key buttons pressed in and I can be problematic under the steering wheel
CHIP inside a plastic case. Gray color, looks like a seed. The grey CHIP after programming starts the car when the key body is inserted into the slot on the dashboard. The transponder is the part of the key on the board that helps start the car when the key is in the pocket of the trousers.
gone. empty space. can't reprogram what i don't have. can i buy a used one on ebay or is this something i have to buy from toyota? whats the name of this chip?
Chip 4D-70E. You can register it yourself after installation. Somewhere on the forum there was a simple instruction.
since my keyless is working, i don't need a fob with the silver toyota logo on the back, any fob with that chip will work?
As a rule, the key fob already has a 4D-70E chip. I think that any old key has this chip. It doesn't matter whether the logo on the key body is gray or black.
i saw the guide on how to program new keys. it involves sticking the original fob in the car several times and opening the door. i assume thats not going to work since my fob no longer has the chip. so how exactly am i going to register it myself?
You only had one fob? I still don't understand why you can't use your old fob that used to work...unless they changed the car so it needs a different transponder?
i only have 1 fob. im not 100% sure how this works, that's why im asking. everything im reading and watching says you have to put your original key in the car to pair a new key. i assume this wont work for me since i dont have the chip and the car does not detect the key when inserted.
Yeah you'll need a locksmith with the tooling and the electronic capability to make all that happen It's not as bad as it seems I don't think.
If you do not have a fully functional key fob (that works in the slot and SKS-keyless functions), then you effectively have an "all keys lost" scenario. You would need to reset the immobilizer ecu with an (OE) immobilizer capable scantool and a "seed code" (VIN specific code generated on a server somewhere). Then new key fob(s) can be programmed. A dealer or capable locksmith can do this, or some folk have done DIY (google if you want). Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
