I have a 2016 Prius that's never had it's map updated, I see there is a free download map for Europe and I only want the UK map but it doesn't mention the date of it, is it fairly recent?

Not sure where you're going to get free updates from for a 2016.

Looking on toyota-tech.eu, there are updates available for all the systems around that age with "2023 Q4 data" (so as up-to-date as you ever get from Toyota), but you'd normally need to pay for a license key.

At least we now get 7 years of free map updates on new models, thanks to EU speed alert regulations.

The latest 2024 maps are £122 but the free map download is available on My Toyota portal which as all the details, engine number etc of my vehicle. It requested my Multimedia device id and current Map version and then the option to download it free which I have now done. It's take over an hour to unpack the files and transfer to USB. Just tried it in the cars USB and so far nothing happened. That's why I want to know the date of the free map as it might be nowhere near recent.

Didn't it tell you what version it was? I think maybe you were downloading the same version you already have - which gives you the possibility to reconfigure the system to change region. I believe the download contains all regions, and the head unit can switch from one to the other if it has the USB data. (In that version of the system. Current head units are all-region)

There is no no mention of what version but it's odds on to be from 2017/8

Given that those systems included 1 year of updates, I guess it would make sense if it was letting you install one year newer than the age of the car free.

It may actually be 3 years - depends on exact system version and age.

Anyway, no joy from the car? It's supposed to pop up something automatically if it recognises the USB contents.

I'm going to reinstall the download on the USB and try again, the only USB slots are on the centre console between the seats, If it will load the USB then the first screen will show the map date. I've managed fine with the 2016 map for 8 years with occasional road new junctions appearing but now more UK speed limits are changing and it's easy to get caught out

Should work from whichever USB slot lets you play music files. It should take a moment to scan it like it would any USB stick, and determine what's on it - a map update, not music.

Blurb in the docs I found says:

Found an old FAT3 stick and reformatted it and unpacked the files etc.
I've just done the install, unticking all the rest of Europe and leaving just UK, it took just 10 minutes and you then get asked to remove the USB

It still says I have 2016v2 but new software version 6.8.1 so until I drive around I don't know if much is different, a speed camera was installed nearby 5 years ago so will be interesting to see if it beeps a warning. I think somehow think it won't .
