It appears like there's going to be a new door sill protector from Toyota soon. They are purely functional as they're only textured black plastic/rubber. They're not up on the autoparts.toyota.com websites yet, so I don't know the pricing. The part number is PT929-47250-02. I'll attach the installation instructions from TIS so you can sorta see what they will look like.
I found these last year and have been happy with both the protection (fronts are longer, backs shorter), and the ease of installation.
Those are what I put in my white Prius, too....looks good. After i got my wife her 2017 Prius, I found some from Toyota that are lit and the car was already wired for them...made installation very easy and they are sharp but I think Toyota got rid of them...don't see them anywhere now.
Part number PT942-47160, which was superseded by PT942-47161. You can still get them for a gen4($250), but I'd be nervous trying to install them on a gen5. The door sill is likely shaped different, the wiring is different, and they wouldn't particularly look good with the completely different font for the Prius logo. I also don't care for those other protectors as the faux carbon fiber look is just not my thing. Heck, it's one of the little reasons I converted my blue LED and gray trim garnish over for the red LED and copper trim garnish; I just didn't like that pattern in the gray trim in the HEV. General FYI, the new protectors from my original post are still not in the ordering system.
I completely understand the faux CF thing. I wanted something thick and protective as opposed to the look and these punched both of those. It didn't hurt that the Toyota branding looked almost OEM. Unfortunately the ones I got are nowhere to be found on Amazon now.
Interesting...I'll have to pull off the plastic guard and see if my 2021 is, also, pre-wired for those lighted doorsills. (If so, will search on Amayama for a discount price.)
Update: They're still not easily available through the various autoparts.toyota.com stores, but they can be ordered through dealerships. MSRP is a little under $60.
Interesting: our 2010 Prius, Canadian Touring level, has cutouts for locator/locking tabs on the sill protectors that came with ours. In other words, they wouldn't look complete without the sills. I believe there were levels without the sill protectors, for that country/gen, so maybe two body styles? Not sure. I was washing the car the other day, noticed a little rust bubbling, should have got on it sooner. Dremelled it clean and applied touch-up paint. Anyway:
Door sill protection should be standard, not an accessory. And it doesn't need to light up, have flashy chrome or Prius badge, just simply/effectively protect. I'll go back under my bridge now...
When I zoom in on these photos the surface looks really rough. Any thoughts on how difficult they will be to clean? Has anyone seen previous models of these? I really like the protectors on my 2009 but they look more substantial than these and are easy to wipe down. I would just go with the OEM sill protectors but they don’t look like they cover the areas that get the most wear. Looks like my car might be in build stage. Not holding my breath. 2024 still being built on 11/18? Maybe it will come in as a 2025?
