I went to Trader Joe’s this afternoon and when I started my car (2013 Persona, 65k miles) the message on the dash said “check hybrid system, pull over when safe” with several yellow lights lit up. Well, I drove home with a bit of non-smooth acceleration. What do you think the problem is?
    Thanks for your input.

The problem is, you need to check the hybrid system.
You need a code reader to check the codes.

There are just too many things that could be wrong to start guessing.

65K on a 13 Persona in Southern California probably an HV battery issue would be my guess I have the same car but that doesn't mean anything but that would be my guess if it's original battery it's well just right as far as the years go to be starting to mess up but then again some of them go to 400,000 miles before they mess up but usually those miles are within 12 or 13 years You're sitting it I don't know 10 or 11 now get a code reader read the codes that's the way to deal with these modern cars shooting in the parts Canon at them without even looking at the codes is quite costly

without knowing the codes, nobody has any clues.

make sure the battery cooling fan is clean, and the intake grille is clear.
also, check the fan motor connector for corrosion.

Well, my mechanic read the codes and it is the hybrid battery. The warranty is 10 years and of course my car is 11 years old. I was told that low mileage and sitting a lot is worse for the battery than driving more miles. If I can get 10 more years on a new battery, that would be great!

no reason why it shouldn't. and you're at the perfect mileage to begin cleaning the egr circuit regularly,
increasing coolant and oil change intervals, to help prevent the notorious blown head gasket problem.
and more frequent brake fluid changes might help stave off the bad brake actuator, idk.

I got my new hybrid battery through my mechanic who bought it from Toyota and installed for over $1k less than dealer quote.

Next thing is to go to Hybridpit in Orange County for Egr service and exchange of all fluids! I’m determined to keep my rig running in tiptop condition.

Thanks for the input. Prius chat is such a good resource for advice.

Why didn't you get the hybrid battery through the hybrid pit? Or rather have them get it
and put it in and then do all the other work?
Maintainence will keep it going for a long time...

Yea and you could have got a lithium or sodium battery from them.

Also if you use my promo code "azusa" you can save 3% at hybridpit.com

I’m not so sure about that. At least based on what Toyota says in Owner’s Manual, in a nutshell that multiple month downtimes are hard on the battery, but other’n that…

our ‘10 has about 3k less miles than yours, and when new, apparently sat at dealership (in a sheltered showroom shed), for about 15 months. So far no problems. Knock on wood.

I would have gone to “the pit” for everything but I needed the car immediately. I’ll go soon when I have more time.

Did you get a NEW battery? Or used/remanufactured?

reman=remanufactured. I had one on a 2006 that lasted me 3 years and the guy I sold it to was still good after a couple years...I've since lost touch. But they don't all fail 2-3 times a year as indicated on here a lot.

I am receiving the “ check hybrid system “ warning message too, but I Disconnected my battery to try and reset it so I have 0 codes on my snanner. It will only shift in to neutral. What can I do?
