My wife just got home with the Prius.. She said the 'gas-gauge' started blinking 2 miles ago ''One bar-blinking gas light'' =Can I make it to nearest gas station 4 miles away?
Yes that won't be any problem You mean you're waiting to figure out whether you can make it no kidding I mean if you release that scared of it dump some of your gas can gas for your lawn mower oh that's empty yeah you're going to be fine.
I think I'd ponder long and hard before trying to go 100 miles on a blinking bar. But I wouldn't worry much about 4 (assuming there's no doubt it just started blinking 2 miles ago).
You can drive 4 miles or push the car to the gas station with your wife)) In Thailand, gasoline is sold in whiskey or coke bottles at every intersection in Bangkok. Pour some gasoline into a plastic bottle for future use and when the empty tank light blinks, you will have time to add a small portion and get to the gas station.
I've gone as much as 70 miles after the blink starts. That time was when I was trying to break 600 miles for one tank. Finished at 604 or 607, give or take. I frequently go 15-20 miles after the blink starts, since it's a 21 mile drive each way to work. Pour some gasoline into a plastic bottle for future use and when the empty tank light blinks, you will have time to add a small portion and get to the gas station. Hoping this is a joke....this violates just about every possible reasonable safety precaution and common sense precaution known to the civilized world. Have you seen what a gasoline jug does when it warms up from sitting outside. Couldn't imagine what a plastic bottle might do in a hot car. Then, have you seen any videos of what happens when a car with a bunch of gas (and fumes) in the interior does when exposed to a spark?
That's right. Hybrid cars are dangerous to drive, especially after filling up to a full tank. A sandwich of 11+ gallons of gas on the bottom and a high-voltage battery of over 200 volts on top always makes me say a silent prayer before driving.
There was a time I was driving around with extra gasoline in the back of a Bronco II. But it was in containers made for carrying gasoline, and I left the vent ports on the cans open, with hoses connected to them, and the hoses led outside the cabin (through one of the rust holes nature had conveniently provided for me).
most i have done was 50 miles in a hycam. i did run my 08 prius out of fuel, but i didn't note the mileage when it beeped and the last pip started blinking.
Most Gen2 drivers can get more than 6 miles out of the blinking light. But not all. But it has varied considerably from car to car, with weather adding in some variation, because of that variable and problematic fuel bladder. I'm remembering a long ago report of a very few suffering fuel starvation with 2 solid bars still showing. A larger number going dry in small distances after the blink started -- didn't JimboPalmer have it die once at 7 miles? Restarting from a cold engine, that might not make it. Then there are plenty of other drivers who regularly went a whole lot more miles without problem, their fuel tank bladders were well behaved. That is pushing it very hard, especially if the spouse is not an accomplished hypermiler. And the fuel bladder would need to be perfectly behaved. Beware that gasoline dissolves through some plastics very rapidly. BTDT. Better stay in an area with plenty of fuel stations very close by. When trying this in the areas where they are 100+ miles apart, you'll need several spare gallons.
