Daughter sent me a pic of her gen 2, with a broken axle or drive shaft. drivers side. 2006. What am I looking at? And does someone have a part number? it appears to be half of a shaft if that helps The picture was taken on the driver side of the car, standing at the mirror, facing the front of the car. rack and pinion?
steering rack. The transaxle shaft is the shaft just a bit further back in the photo, about 2x the diameter new ends are available on Rock Auto pretty cheap...
I'd probably put a rack end and an outer tie rod in on that side just because count your threads showing remove behind the inner boot at the rack end inner joining point and then withdraw that and you can measure the length that the two pieces need to be so when you put them in your alignment will be within a 16th of an inch or so which my alignment guy tells me it's very close when I bring my cars to him because this is how I do this usually my alignment guy puts the heads on the front and tells me I'm so close it's not worth adjusting until tire change time just because.
That's the inner tie rod, P/N 45503-47030 (but check this part number for yourself. I make no guarantees). You're going to need a front end alignment when this is replaced. Perhaps the best would be to have the shop that does the alignment do the repair - if you can find one that's trustworthy.
