2011 Prius. The main hybrid battery has been changed last year, as well as the ABS system.12v 4 years ago. The car won't start. The only thing that shows is the door open sign, when I open the engine there's a little whiny sound on the right side. What's going on? Help I'm stuck after surgery
Yep, I'd check the 12V battery. That little whiny sound is the brake booster pump trying (and probably failing) to build up brake fluid pressure at startup. With a healthy battery that sound would have been a much louder buzz.
a friend is here and trying to jump the 12 V, and now the red light for the door doesn't even come on, the whining has stopped, there's no noise nothing. And the brakes are really hard to press down.

We're going to get a new multimeter, what should be looking at after we get it? we, what should we look for?
Just check the voltage on the battery. A healthy battery should be showing at least 12.6 volts. If it's something like 10~11 volts, it's pretty much toast.
Thanks. The fact that the brake is insanely hard to press, would that indicate any brake issue? or is that the 12 V still?
What's the best battery to get to replace? I looked at some videos, and I think I can get my son to change it, it looks pretty simple
A battery from Toyota dealership is a good choice. They last a long time. The cheapest that I have found is from Walmart, about $180. Look online for stock a Walmart near you.
I don't know if you'll find your size there, but Walmart is a great choice for batteries just because they sell a bunch, so you are likely to get a fresh one instead of something that's been on the shelf a year already.
What normally makes the brake not insanely hard to press is an accumulator of brake fluid used to assist you, kept filled to high pressure by a 12-volt electric pump. If there hasn't been power to run that pump, the assist pressure gets used up and, without it, the brakes are insanely hard to press.
