We hit a deer a last week and the front end of the car is crushed, air bags deployed - and it's officially totaled. 2010 Prius with about 222,000 miles on it. The back of the car is fine, the interior is fine.
Just put $4000 into the engine due to the head gasket last January :/

My question is - I can buy it back for $800 - and want to know if I could make enough money off the re-sale to make it worth the time of listing, selling, etc. I live in rural Nebraska, so it's not a big market. I'd only be interested in selling the full vehicle and not parting it out.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The whole car will still have to be disassembled for parts.
It's unlikely that anyone will buy a wrecked junk 2010 to drive.

Dang, sorry about that....must've been a pretty big deer!

(I have no knowledge of salvaged titles or such, sorry!)

Are you going to replace it with a new Prius? We aren't fans of the Gen 5's so buying a Corolla Hybrid to replace my wife's older Prius.

Hybrid battery modules are worth 400-600 very likely, depending on the age. Engine is very likely sellable (although the pistons & rings may need to be updated so it won't starting burning any oil in the future). I would call a scrap yard to check how much they want.

Thanks everyone - it seems that there is not much value to a Prius so badly damaged (and yes, it was a big deer).
Tomorrow the search begins for a replacement.

I've been sitting on my hands, but: it really doesn't look that bad. Obviously not going to "buff out", and there's those airbags, but...

Guess it's dollars-and-cents, with the high repair and parts costs these days.

Hey, my 2013 gen 3 with 213K just blew head gasket - it seems quite complicated to repair by myself. Do U think your engine is good ? give me a call: 863-658-2799 -- Sebring, FL. I have a well driller friend near Sioux Falls; he often drives to Nebr. for pump parts... where do U live ? I have cousins in S. F. whom i would LOVE to visit; I'm a dreamer and all round handyman. lets talk.
