    Happy Holidays All-

I'm wondering what the latest navigation CD version is and if it can be used in a 2005? If not, can the previous version be used in a 2005? TIA!!

    Hey Rick-

Thanks for your reply. Just thought I'd let you know I used to live in Morro Bay. I got a chuckle after I noticed where you're from. I'll be up there and actually staying in Cambria next month. I love the Central Coast. It's where I go to "recharge".

The 5.1 is available in two versions. One is for the 2004-2005 and one for the 2006-2007. That's due to the enhanced graphics of the 2006+. Just be sure which version you order.

So, it sounds like the 6.1 is the latest and greatest. Any idea if I can purchase either 5.1 or 6.1 from anywhere? I would love to get it......

the manual says to contact your dealership about buying new dvds for the navigation so I am guessing they probably have newer versions as well

I think there's a button in the upper right hand corner of the MFD when you press MENU.

You mean available for both 2004-2005 and 2006-2007?

What are the improvements of 6.1 over 5.1?

<_< One caveat: The Nav DVDs came in two versions, one for the original MFDs and another for the "improved, higher-resolution" MFDs. You would need to confirm that you're getting the correct DVD since they're not interchangeable.

Yes, there are low resolution and high resolution versions of 6.1. I don't know if the updates have been released for sale, but they have been installed in new Toyota vehicles for the past few months. There is at least one 07 Toyota that is still using the low resolution version.

I assume that v 6.1 has newer data, such as new roads and point of interest. I was also advised that if you install v 6.1 in an 04 or 05 Prius, the override function will be lost.

I just bought version 6.1 from the local Toyota dealer. I thought an upgrade involved just putting in a new disk, but apparently not. Has anyone done a DIY upgrade of the NAV disk?

There are two versions of 6.1, a low resolution and a high resolution. The two are not compatible. If the upgrade did not work, you may have gotten the wrong DVD.

The upgrade involves nothing more than inserting the new DVD in the navigation unit under the driver's seat. To force a firmware update (it is done automatically if you have an older version), you need to momentarily disconnect the power from the navigation unit by pulling out the largest connector on its front, while the disk is out.

And in addition, does the new version let you use voice input commands that weren't available on the '05 version 4.2?

For example, descriptions of the '06 nav system indicate the ability to input addresses using voice. If the nav lockout is prevented by the upgrade, are other options now available?

Using this feature, you'll never tire of the ways "Jill" can misunderstand your pronounciation of the city name. How she can hear "Morro Bay" and say "Helendale" is a mystery. But it's only one of a dozen ways she doesn't understand "Morro Bay."

I've since deduced that I must pronounce the name "Moe-row Bay," with just the right timing before the "Bay" for her to get it right...most of the time.

Once "Jill" understands the city name, then it's on to the street name.

Oh, and when I said "Arizona" just for fun, she understood. And she repeated "A-Rizona" with a long "A."

But did you use the long "A"?

Actually I probably wouldn't mind Jill's idiosyncracies, if I had the chance to try until I got it her way.
The question remains. "Are the additional voice inputs part of the NAV DVD, or something else in the Nav system? If it gave me some new features, as well as correcting errors in the system, I might buy the upgrade. Otherwise, I'd probably keep the current DVD and buy the CoastalTech Lockpick.

I didn't use the long "A" but she did. I suspect she pronounces all place names (states, cities, and streets) using whatever speech-synthesis they built in. She has to, because they wouldn't record every street name. But having proper recordings of the 50 states wouldn't be too much to ask.

Since you already have some voice inputs, I suspect the new version adds the "Address" word (which means "Find destination by address"). There's no need for new hardware. I'm sure it's a software update.
