I just got my 2019 prime. I asked the dealer to make sure the charging cable was included in the car. It sure was, andn the plug end is damaged. the charger itself works. of course I only noticed this when I took it home.

I have replaced many 15A/12 gauge plugs in my life and have no problem replacing another one EXCEPT, the dealer is two hours away, and I don't know if I should ask for a replacement. I know the right thing to do is to get a replacement, but you know the way some dealers are. its not the only issue.

i dont mind spending some money,It is easier than dealing with the dealership, but there are limits

    1. does anybody either know if the very end of the plug between the charging brick can be replaced?
    2. The cable is unusually thick and the gauge of the jacket is not written on the cable, only the wires inside are listed. Is anyone aware of the thickness of the whole cable itself, then I could search for a plug end.
    3. am i screwed?
    thanks

Someone has already spliced into it and had done a sloppy repair job at that!

I don't know how they do warranties in Canada, but I would insist on a new or properly repaired one. That cable isn't going to "hold-up", if you try to charge outside - isn't waterproof by a long shot and you'll likely get shocked.

    Good Luck....

if the brick comes apart, it shouldn't be too hard to replace. i'd be comfortable with electric tape if not using outside.

Yes but the long-term damage is not an issue if i can replace the plug or everything upstream of the charger box.

i dont know if it comes apart, or what spare part i could use.
we plan on plugging this into our outlet, outside but never removing it.

yeah, outside, i suppose i'd want a good seal. what about that flexi rubber tape from a hardware store, might be waterproof.

i dont really want to go down the electric tape route. That is not a good long-term solution,And would recommend it to nobody. I do have self-sealing silicone tape but would never use it for repair of this type.

as far as I can tell, the plug-in needs to be replaced, or everything upstream of the brick. if these things are not possible then maybe my dealer needs to do something,But I just don't see them saying yes because car dealerships.

I opened my brick up once, just for curiosity. The entire assembly on the power side of the brick just clicks into place. You need to open the brick to release the lock that allows you to remove it. I don't believe it's possible to replace the small section of cable between the plug and the brick other than replacing the entire 'unit' consisting of both ends and the cable. Note that the plug includes a temperature sensor so it's not just a normal power plug.

I seem to remember that somewhere here this was discussed and someone came up with the part number of that cable unit.

If there is a part number just to replace the end, that would probably be awesome.
I tried looking through the forums but couldn't quite find where that would be. a lot of discussions in the last 12 years for plug-ins.If anybody can remember this, please help

I did find this part number
    G90G0-47120
    or
    G90G0A

but I wanted to know if it was correct

Now that you know the short cable is easily replaceable, you might be able to buy a dead or broken charging cable for a reasonable price and just use the short cable.
