What parts do I actually need that air filter looking thing see attached looks more like a motor cycle air filter and I honestly got like at least 234k on my engine but a fairly new cat which I would like to last for ten years lol. So please let me know what I need to use terramir
Because the 2nd gen is notorious for carbon build up in the intake and the valves coming through the PCV valve That's why, one of the 1st things I did 59k miles ago was clean the throttle plate it was black at about 166k miles now there are over 234k miles on it
If you think that's bad, you should see the junk that comes out of a Gen 3. Even on my current Gen 4, the can is full every oil change.
i immediately thought you had a gen 3 without looking at your car or the forum, because they are so prevalent in that generation. is gen 2 a big problem?
Gen 2 takes the PCV gas only from the top of valve cover? Maybe a lot cleaner. Gen 3 takes it from a point near top of block, a few inches below head gasket. And there’s always a lot of “soup” in the intake manifold. There an effective oil catch can “helps”.
I put a catch can on my 2006. Uses about a quart per 3000 miles. At 5k oil change, I had 4-6 oz of "spooge" to drain in summer. In winter it was always overfull with water (condensate) - had to drain it twice per 5k. The intake manifold still looked to have "the same" amount of oil sitting in it after 5 or 10k, so I got rid of the can. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
